A huge BBC thriller with a Hollywood star is officially coming back to our screens – finally.

There might always be new stuff dropping for us to watch but many of us still end up going back to our favourites – from binging all eight seasons of Dexter on Netflix to a dark BBC thriller from a decade ago.

And after eight long years, two new series of another popular watch is coming back, complete with its star, Tom Hiddleston.

The espionage series follows the Loki star as Jonathan Pine, an ex-soldier who gets recruited by a British intelligence agent (played by Olivia Colman).

Of course, I’m talking about The Night Manager, rated by many as one of the top-rated UK dramas back in 2016.

The original series won three Golden Globe Awards and two Emmys as fans called it ‘one of the best dramas’ of the past two decades.

Inspired by John le Carré’s best-selling novel, the BBC and Prime Video have confirmed The Night Manager is going to return for two new series with filming beginning later this year.

David Farr will once again write the show as Georgi-Banks Davies is set to direct all six episodes of the second series.

As fans are absolutely buzzing about his return to the show, Tom Hiddleston said: “The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect.

“I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.”

BBC Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore said the show ‘had the nation hooked’ back in 2016 as it made for ‘unmissable viewing’, but adds viewers aren’t going to be disappointed: “The scale and ambition behind the new season will take it to even greater heights.”

While there’s no date for release just yet, it’s good news for many that the show is officially coming back.

Users on X were quick to agree: “One of the best programmes I’ve ever seen.”

Others said the news ‘made their day’ as plenty put: “Long overdue. First series was brilliant.”

Many are hoping for Colman to return too as one wrote: “I can’t tell you how excited I am. This has been a good day. I think.”

While one joked: “Renewing something almost a decade after it filmed is the most British thing ever. Gives me hope for a new season of Sherlock!”

Series one of The Night Manager is available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Prime Video globally.
