Netflix may be losing Wednesday for season 2

The Addams Family spin-off has become one of the most successful Netflix series ever

Netflix could be set to lose one of its biggest series.

Since it landed on the streaming site last year, the Addams Family spin-off has become one of its most successful shows ever.

If you haven't managed to catch any of it yet, here's a bit of background to get you up to speed.

The eight-part series centres on the 16-year-old goth, played by Jenna Ortega, who attends Nevermore Academy and gets to work trying to solve a murder mystery.

The synopsis reads: "Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

But while it's proved to be a massive success, with critics raving about the series and Ortega's performance, Netflix customers may not get the chance to see where the story goes next.

Deadline revealed last year that Amazon and MGM finalised an $8.5bn (£7.06bn) merger.

And with Wednesday being an MGM production, there's a chance that the rights may go to Amazon Prime instead.

Now, before you all go jumping the gun and start ditching your accounts, this is not certain, and neither side has made any announcement about where the show's future lies.

So we'll just have to wait and see what happens with the second instalment.

LADbible has reached out to Amazon Prime and Netflix for comment.

It was recently announced that Ortega had been nominated for a Golden Globe.

However, the young actor told Complex that she was intimidated to take on the role, as the 90s movies had cemented the character as a pop culture staple.

“You want to do something different. You don’t want to be ripping off anybody else’s performance,” she said.

“We’ve never spent so much time with Wednesday on screen before, there has to be more dimension in order to push that story forward."

As Wednesday is famous for her aloofness and deadpan wit, the actor said she wanted to show a softer side to her.

However, Ortega didn’t want to stray too far away from what fans were expecting.

She added: “I was very protective and I never wanted to give too much or too little.”
