There's only a few days left before the fourth film in the Thor movie franchise gets released Down Under.

Drop all you are doing, summon Mjölnir and get the popcorn popping. A new Thor film is almost here!

The second Marvel movie to be released this year will be playing in cinemas from July 6 right across Australia.

The blockbuster will premiere the day after in New Zealand on July 7, but fans in the United States will have to wait an extra two days (8 July) before they can go and see the film.

Love and Thunder will be the fourth film in the Thor franchise, with Chris Hemsworth and his luscious locks returning as the Norse god.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the film is also set to star Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale and other A-list names.

A worldwide premiere of the film was held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 23 and was met with positive reviews.

Critics called the film ‘pure fun’ that has a ‘great story, stakes and character building’, with Natalie Portman, in particular, receiving applause for her portrayal of Jane Foster.

The film's synopsis is listed as: "Thor embarks on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced -- a quest for inner peace.

"However, his retirement gets interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods.

"To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who -- to his surprise -- inexplicably wields his magical hammer.

"Together, they set out on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance."

Sounds like a wild ride.

Although on the shorter side for a Marvel film at two hours, it's still advisable to go to the bathroom prior to seeing the movie and not drinking too much soft drink to avoid missing out on any key scenes.

Tickets for Thor: Love and Thunder have been on pre-sale since June 14, with fans eager to get their hands on a ticket.

A trailer for the film dropped on April 18 and amassed an incredible 209 million views in the first 24 hours.

If the excitement from the trailer, and hype of pre-sales, is anything to go off, we should be in for a treat once the movie is released on Wednesday.
