The reading device, which allows you to read in low light conditions - or when you’ve switched off the big light at bedtime - is just as ideal for travel or your daily commute, allowing you to carry hundreds - if not thousands - of books with you, without taking up much space in your bag at all.

But if you’re still not sure which one could be right for you, we’ve done all the hard work for you by ranking them.

1) Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, £118.74 down from £159.99 (26% off)

  • Display type: 7" glare-free
  • Storage: 16GB
  • Battery life: Up to 12 weeks
  • Waterproof: Yes

Available in three colours - black, jade green and raspberry pink - the Kindle Paperwhite is certainly a fan favourite. While it’s more of an investment than the entry level Kindle, owners agree it’s well worth the upgrade.

With double the battery life and a waterproof design, it's long-wearing and perfect for summer getaways; you won't look back after adding this piece of tech to your daily routine.

2) Amazon Kindle, £74.99 down from £94.99 (21% off)

  • Display type: 6" glare-free
  • Storage: 16GB
  • Battery life: Up to 6 weeks
  • Waterproof: No

The most budget-friendly of the bunch, the original Kindle is currently under £75. And it is a fantastic choice for most readers. We also can’t get enough of the matcha green colourway that it comes in, alongside a classic black.

Yes, it’s not waterproof, but if you don’t plan on reading in the bath or by the pool, this shouldn’t necessarily be a deal breaker. And the 16GB of storage should be more than enough, even if you plan on downloading all the books on your to be read list.

3) Amazon Kindle Kids, £89.99 down from £114.99 (22% off)

  • Display type: 6" glare-free
  • Storage: 16GB
  • Battery life: Up to 6 weeks
  • Waterproof: No

Designed for little ones aged three to12, the Kids version of the original Kindle comes with a choice of three fun covers, as well as a six-month Amazon Kids+ subscription, giving them access to books and graphic novels, curated by age, to grow with them.

Fans also appreciate the two-year worry-free guarantee, which essentially covers you if it breaks, allowing you to return it and receive a replacement for free, which is a nice touch, particularly if you have kiddos who are prone to dropping things.

Plus, the Parent Dashboard allows you to monitor their reading, set a device bedtime and adjust filters as and when you need to, as well.

4) Amazon Kindle Scribe, £267.99 down from £379.99 (29% off)

  • Display type: 10.2" glare-free
  • Storage: 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB
  • Battery life: Up to 12 weeks
  • Waterproof: No

Combining the benefits of an e-reader and a notebook, the Scribe is great if you like to journal, take notes or want to use it to study. And there’s almost 30% off at the moment, making it a deal you won’t want to miss out on.

Unlike some other tablets - like Apple’s iPad - it comes with a pen as standard, and you won’t have the same distractions that you might have since you won’t be getting constant app notifications or feeling the urge to scroll on social media, either.

Allowing you to write on PDFs, documents and books, it’s one of the more unique Kindle offerings. Plus, you can choose from three different storage amounts, which isn’t the case with the other Kindles.

5) Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, £184.99 down from £269.99 (31% off)

  • Display type: 7" glare-free with color display
  • Storage: 32GB
  • Battery life: Up to 8 weeks
  • Waterproof: Yes

Even though it’s had mixed reviews since it was first released, for those looking to read graphic novels, comic books or even have their book covers appear in colour, the Colorsoft will likely be your best bet.

Because of its colour screen, you can also highlight sections, sentences and specific words in different colours, which can come in handy if you’re studying or like to annotate your reads.

What to know before buying a Kindle

It is worth noting that each of the different Kindles will allow you to pay a bit extra - normally £10 - to remove ads from your device.

You can also decide whether or not to add three months of Kindle Unlimited with your purchase. For Prime Day, this is included in the price (just make sure to select ‘with three months Kindle Unlimited’ as you add yours to your basket to take advantage of the perk).

Given that Kindle Unlimited is normally £9.49 a month, buying your Kindle today will essentially save you £28.47 and give you access to thousands of books for free.

With bestselling authors like Freida McFadden and Colleen Hoover, as well as the Harry Potter series included, to name just a few, this is well worth adding this week.

Finally, you'll need to be a Prime member to cash in on these discounts (you can sign up for a 30-day free trial here).
