McDonald's has added a brand new burger to the menu and they're already calling it iconic.

For nearly 50 years McDonald's - which has been unofficially renamed as Maccies - has been a firm staple of British culture and has been providing us with hangover cures for decades.

If you're... shall we say of a certain age, you might remember when the first UK location of the fast food joint opened up in Woolwich, south east London in 1974.

Back then there were no chicken nuggets on the menu, and the Big Mac cost just 45p. But with inflation, 45p is estimated to be around £5.00 to £5.40 in today's money - a bit more than what Maccies actually charge.

Their new burger, however, promises to be 'a future icon' when it gets added to the menu this month.

McDonald's have announced their new burger, know officially as the 'Big Arch'.

The burger is stacked with two 100 percent beef patties, with white cheddar cheese slices, crispy onions, fresh onions, shredded lettuce, crunchy pickles, and smothered in the new, mysterious Big Arch sauce.

Maccies say the sauce is 'full of that unmistakably McDonald’s flavour'.

Well it'll definitely be quite the mouthful as the Big Arch stack is held together in a poppy and sesame seed-topped bun.

"A new iconic burger needs an equally iconic sauce, and we’ve taken it up a notch with the Big Arch," Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK&I, said.

"This isn’t just about size, it’s about flavour. With double layers of beef, crispy onions, and the hero of the build, our signature sauce, every bite is crafted to hit the spot to satisfy serious McDonald’s hunger.

"Big, bold, and packed with serious deliciousness."

How much will the new McDonald's burger cost?

The Big Arch, on its own, will cost £7.99, while a Big Arch Medium Meal starts at £9.99.

It's important to note though that prices will vary across the 1,560-some UK restaurants, whilst the eatery claims to feed over three million customers each day.

"McDonald’s is one of the UK’s largest private sector employers, employing more than 159,000 people and works with over 29,000 British and Irish farmers," the fast food chain said.

When is the Big Arch coming out?

The Big Arch will be available in UK restaurants and via McDelivery from Wednesday, 18 June.

"For the fans who usually throw in an extra cheeky menu item, this one’s for you. Big McDonald’s hunger deserves a big McDonald’s burger - and this is the most loaded bite we’ve ever served," Maccies promises.
