Dinner etiquette and splitting the bill can be problematic, especially if you're out with a new group of friends or people that you don’t see often.

The debate is always discussed passionately on whether the group splits equally or pays for their own meal and drinks.

But let’s be real, it’s always the people who want to split equally that spend the most… don’t worry we’re onto you guys!

An anonymous man posted his experience and fury on Reddit after constantly splitting the bill with his friends, resulting in him paying ‘three times’ the cost of his meal.

But when he decided to turn the tables, the results backfired…

The man took to Reddit to share his fury.

He wrote: “My friends go nuts.

“They order $100 (£82) dollar meals and appetisers with extra sides.

“I end up paying three times the cost of my meal.

“We can all afford this.

“No one is going broke from these meals but I don't think it's fair.

“I have mentioned a few times that we should get separate bills but they never agree."

The guy claimed he wasn’t a ‘big eater’ but one day decided to try and get his own back by ordering elaborately when out with the big spenders… or not so big considering they never fork out their share.

While out one night and after choosing to order a burger with some fries and a few drinks, he claimed his bill came to ‘about $250’ (£205), which he said was ‘$200 (£164) more than I usually top out at’.

When it came to paying and leaving, the friends did their usual splitting of the bill, but the guy could tell that his mates were far from happy about receiving a taste of their own medicine.

He said that they were all giving him the ‘side eye’, and one even privately messaged him afterwards to let him know he was out of order.

The man explained: “One of them texted me and said I was an a***** for padding the bill like that and if I did it again he was going to insist that we have individual bills.

“I texted everyone and asked if they all felt the same.

“They did.

“So I apologised and agreed that from now on when we go out I will pay my own bill.”

That’s one way of proving a point for sure!

Questioning his methods of how he went about the social experiment, the man added: “My girlfriend thinks I'm right for proving my point but I am still feeling resentment from my friends.”

Reddit users quickly reassured the man on his decision, with one praising: "Genius Move! Brilliant."

While another said: "You gave them a taste of their own medicine and they didn't like the flavour."
