A sexual health doctor has explained why it seems like younger people aren’t quite as busy in the sheets.
It’s previously been reported that Gen Z are having way less sex each week than other generations.
Yep, the tech-savvy lot typically born between 1997 and 2012 might have a whole different load of vocab to older people, but perhaps only verbally, not intimately.
And sure, plenty of youngsters might still be having sex, but it’s simply that the polls show they’re not getting at it anywhere near as much as the likes of Millennials, Gen X or Boomers.
Advert
This might be pretty surprising to most of us (even to Gen Z themselves), and so LADbible posed the question to a GP in an episode of Honesty Box.
Dr Perera has a theory. (LADbible)

Dr Mark Perera was asked: “Is it true Gen Z are having less sex? And if so, why is that?”
Calling this a ‘great question’, the GP, who has an interest in sexual health, said that ‘multiple societal studies’ are showing this finding.
But, he does admit that it’s ‘hard to put our finger on why’ that really is.
“A lot of it is to do with stress,” Dr Perera explained, “economic stress, housing stress – being able to have that environment to have sex and enjoy it.”
The GP then went on to add that there is also ‘an element of understanding what you need’ when it comes to intimacy.
“It’s not going with the common trends,” he continued. “And it’s deciding, ‘Am I ready for sex?’ , ‘Do I want to have sex?’, ‘Do I have a really high libido right now that I have to go and do that?’”
Dr Perera reckons part of why Gen Z are having less sex is actually because of them ‘understanding themselves a bit better’.
“That’s what I’d like to believe," he added.

The frisky numbers
A previous study from sex-positive retailer Lovehoney pulled together research into how much sex each generation has per year.
It claimed that Boomers (likely born between 1946 and 1964) are having sex 47 times a year, working out at 0.9 times a week.
Then Gen X are said to be getting at it 1.2 times a week, with those between 46 and 60 years old therefore thought to be shagging about 62 times a year.
Millennials are said to be at it the most, though, with the 29 to 45-year-olds typically having sex 73 times a year or 1.4 times a week.
And then Gen Z are thought to be doing it an average of 36 times a year – about 0.7 times a week.
