British nanny Jo Frost has issued some advice for parents who keep making the same mistake without realising.

The 55-year-old reality star, best known for her Supernanny series, has provided her expert opinion to millions of families across the globe.

Jo's evidence-based approach has led her to become a New York Times best-selling author of several parenting books over the past 25 years.

Taking to her Instagram page last week, she opened up about the thing that 'a lot parents' keep getting 'confused' about.

"Millions of parents do not know the difference between AuthoriTARIAN & AuthoriTATIVE," she wrote.

"They are even spelled similarly... look, you see, it can be confusing, right?

"However, as explained, the two words are completely different parenting styles."

Jo pointed out that although her 'style is not what you may read on your Google search, I educate with an authoritative knowledge with evidence based, intuitive lead practices, which plays a huge part in the wisdom I share energetically when immersively working alongside families'.

"I have continued to do so for nearly four decades.

"Many parents struggle because they do not take the time to question their style or to recognise the impact of such on their partners and children.

"When this happens it can lead to polarised parenting with passive aggressive outcomes with couples feeling divided."

She noted that some parents 'can't see past their own passive parenting', and without realising it, 'impose their own unhealed strict upbringing onto their children called PARENTAL PROJECTING.'

"The healing of the adult and inner child is necessary. However, raising children whilst doing so is no small feat and takes a lot of vulnerability... millions of families are doing so proudly and courageously," Jo penned.

She requested mums and dads to take a look at their parenting style and analyse how it is impacting their kids, both in a negative and positive way.

"So I ask you all to ponder....what is your style, and what impact is it having on your family?" Jo said.

The TV star warned that it takes a bit of time to sit down and reflect on how parents treat their children, but that is simply a process.

"Spend the time to work this out, and you will be on your way to discovering more about yourself, your upbringing, and how that matters as a parent in today's world," she added.
