Carnival Cruise Line ban another item that passengers swear by

New items have been added to the banned list in certain venues

Carnival Cruise Line is known for frequently updating their list of banned items in order to help keep passengers safe.

These banned items can range from the obvious, such as weapons and drugs, to items which you might not expect to be banned on a cruise ship, such as the upside down pineapple which was recently banned onboard Carnival's ships.

On June 1, Carnival Cruise Line updated its in-cabin 'Have Fun. Be Safe' guideline letter, announcing a new item which has been added to the list of banned items.

The new rule bans the use of handheld fans when in certain venues on your cruise holiday.

The 'Have Fun. Be Safe' guidelines states that 'for safety reasons, handheld fans are not permitted in the nightclub or on any indoor dance floor', meaning passengers can still bring them onboard and use them in other areas of the ship.

The letter also goes on to explain that beverages are not allowed on any of the ship's dance floors either.

The new rules did however cause some confusion, leading guests to question the types of fans that could no longer be used in these venues while onboard.

Carnival’s Brand Ambassador John Heald clarified on Facebook that only the traditional, non-electric folding fans - also known as 'clack' fans - are prohibited. He then clarified that battery-powered fans for personal use remain acceptable.

Heald went on to apologise for the confusion, explaining: "These are the paper fans — the fans made of cardboard or those handheld fans — those are not allowed on any indoor dance floor,” then stating that he "should have been more specific."

Heald went on to reassure passengers that there were no changes to cabin safety rules, at least when it came to fans, following on with: "We have not changed any rule regarding the fans that some of you like to have in your cabin."

The ban has come in the wake of the latest dance trend to hit TikTok these past few weeks, 'Boots on the Ground'.

The popular song quickly grew in popularity as it became a TikTok challenge, which includes dance moves that involve snapping fans in time with the beat.

While the dance challenge might seem harmless enough, Carnival Cruise Line are clearly concerned about guests waving around fans, while dancing in close proximity to one another.

The good news is, if you're looking to bring a battery powered, or electronic fan onboard, you still can. Just don't go waving them around while line dancing and you'll be fine.
