Cruise line explains unique ban as customer 'demands answer' after security confiscate item

Carnival Cruise Line have specific rules on what you can and cannot bring on to its ships

The world's largest cruise line has explained one of their more unique bans after one customer emailed staff asking for 'an explanation' when their equipment was confiscated by security.

Carnival Cruise Line, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc, transports millions around the world every single year as people decide to head to the open seas for their holidays in the sun.

With many routes around the Caribbean, as well as Europe, North America, and Mexico, it is loved by countless tourists on an annual basis. And it's those passengers that make it a billion dollar business year in, year out.

As with Royal Caribbean or P&O Cruises, Carnival has its very own particular set of rules everyone travelling on board must obey.

And one of the men who regularly chats to customers has been forced to explain one rather unique rule that includes a ban on items being brought on to ships.

It goes without saying that plenty of items can't come on board. We're talking anything resembling a weapon and a strict ban on illegal substances.

There's also more unique bans. Just look at this one that concerns the balcony area of your cabin.

Carnival's Brand Ambassador, John Heald, has now taken to Facebook to explain another ban after one loyal customer had an item taken off of them at port.

The item? A 'Mr Coffee' coffee machine.

"We had our Mr. Coffee confiscated on our Radiance journey cruise, John," one passenger messaged him explaining.

"This ruined the experience we had been looking forward to for many months. We know room service will deliver a coffee pot in the room at 6am.

"It was either luke warm, too strong or watered down. Never got a decent mornings which is why as diamond cruisers we should a) have the right to bring a coffee pot with us and b) have a coffee maker in our room."

They added: "I was told by someone we met at the chef table dinner that they always have their portable French press (via Amazon) and that it gets through security just fine. I would like an explanation to this, John."

Explaining the rule, Heald in fact said that both the Mr Coffee and a French press were banned.

"If you do not think the coffee from room service is adequate please call 8000 for another pot and ask them to make it stronger or hotter and as always our crew will do their very best for you," Heald explained when it came to problems with the coffee provided.

Coffee makers are banned across most cruise lines with those that have an electric self-heating element banned due to fire safety worries.

"Electrical and household appliances containing any kind of heating element, such as irons, clothes steamers, immersion heaters, heating blankets, water heaters, coffee machines, hot plates, toasters, heating pads, humidifier, etc,” the policy on the Carnival website states. Well, now you know.
