A flight attendant has shared three mistakes people often make when booking flights - so listen up.

With January finally gone, but the weather still grim, you might be thinking of attempting to nab yourself some winter sun.

If you’re happy to shop around, there’s usually plenty of cheap options available, including flights to Bill Gates’ favourite European destination Croatia for as little as £30 - not bad, eh?

And if you are planning a getaway soon, then it might be wise to heed the advice of Fort Lauderdale-based flight attendant Caroline, who posts under the handle @blondevoyage on Instagram.

According to Caroline, there are three mistakes that people can commonly make that can make your travel plans go less smoothly than you’d like.

“I hope this can make your travel experience a little more seamless,” she said.

Connecting flights

First up, for anyone who is flying further afield, or otherwise board a connecting flight, Caroline stresses the importance of leaving enough time for your connection.

She explained: “If you’re booking a connecting flight, make sure you give yourself at least two hours in between flights.”

Giving yourself at least two hours will help to ensure a smooth transition between flights and if you have more than a couple of hours, you might also have a chance to have a cheeky airport pint or a snack before leaving.

Choosing the best time to fly

Secondly, Caroline suggests booking the earliest flight out available.

Now, while most of us aren’t keen on the idea of getting up at 1.00am to go and get a flight out - or worse yet a flight home when the hangover is just starting to kick in - Caroline says it can save a lot of trouble.

She said: “I know you don’t want to wake up at 3 in the morning to catch a 5 am flight. But I promise you the earlier your flight is, the smoother everything is going to go.”

Download airline app

Finally, Caroline strongly suggests downloading the app for your airline of choice as soon as you’ve booked your flights.

“It will help you out so much as you are traveling throughout the airport,” she said.

“You can find out if there are any delays and get information on your connecting flight and which gate it is at. There is just so much information on them.”

So there you go - armed with these insider tips go forth and book your holidays.
