Tourists furious after notorious Mykonos restaurant charges €1,000 for three meals

Other customers paid as much as €35 for a Coca-Cola

We've all become well accustomed to the rising costs in restaurants, but one tourist trap in Mykonos is leaving travellers furious because of its - frankly ridiculous - prices.

Going on holiday can be an expensive business, especially if you make the mistake of bringing the wrong size suitcase, but normally we don't mind paying a little extra for some tasty food, especially when there are stunning views to go with it.

But there's one notorious restaurant on the beautiful Greek island of Mykonos that has established something of a reputation for ripping off tourists wherever they can, and despite all the warnings associated with it, it seems as if DK Oyster, located on Platis Gialos beach, keeps on getting away with it.

One couple nearly called the police last year after being charged close to €600 for pasta dishes and smoothies, with over €100 of that coming from the service charge.

It seems as if the beachside spot lures in tourists with the offer of free sunbeds, so long as they order a drink, but often those cocktails come with crazy costs, as another woman issued a warning after being charged £690 for two drinks and two appetisers.

But despite all the warnings you see online, unsuspecting tourists are still falling victim to the restaurant's tactics, with one user taking to TripAdvisor to slam DK Oyster after she was allegedly charged €1000 (£861) for just three dishes.

Jessica L wrote: "The place is an abuse of price. For a whole fish we paid 350 euros and for three dishes 1000 euros.

"The worst experience in Mykonos, because not even at Scorpions, which is one of the best places, did we pay that amount for a dinner for five people with a starter, main course, and dessert."

Her one-star post wasn't alone, with over 1000 people leaving scathing reviews of the Mykonos restaurant on TripAdvisor, with recent customers also slating it.

Describing the venue as a 'shocking scam', former customer Sue wrote: "A staff member brought over an additional drink - unrequested - as a "gift" for our group of four. It seemed like a friendly gesture... until it appeared on the bill."

She also claimed that she had been charged €400 for a 'handful' of alcoholic and soft drinks, including €35 for a Coca-Cola.

Others were shocked after being charged as much as €5 for ketchup or €35 for a beer, which is making a life of sobriety look even more appealing.

So, next time you're in Mykonos, it's potentially worth avoiding this particular spot, unless you want to pay the price of your flights for just a few drinks by the sea.
