The location dubbed as the 'new Dubai' is home to the world's largest chandelier, if you're into that sorta thing.

Dubai is one of the most Instagrammable cities in the world at the moment.

The United Arab Emirates city was named the world’s second most attractive city destination of 2023 and is probably on the top of your bucket list, if you're an influencer.

Over 19 million tourists visited in 2023 and that number keeps increasing by millions, year on year.

Dubai is classed as a luxury travel destination, and for people with a few quid, everything is on show - from designer clothes and expensive restaurants to the world's tallest building and innovative development.

Now, if you're more into culture and don't want to pay top dollar, there is a nearby destination that offers a bit more heritage, peace and quiet.

Just a one hour flight away from Dubai is Muscat, the capital of Oman and a city that has a lot to offer.

"Located next to UAE on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, Oman should not be overlooked," Travel Noire explained.

"Though it has been referred to as 'the new Dubai,' the country is a star in its own right with much to offer.

"Beautiful natural wonders, a deep-rooted history, incredible architecture and lively nightlife are a few reasons it is worth a visit."

Muscat is home to the biggest chandelier in the world, with its most famous attraction being Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, described as the 'best of the best'.

I've been and I can confirm that it is stunning.

According to Canvas Club Oman, it 'captivates its visitors with the most beautiful unique and traditional architectural elements'.

Tourists who love their souvenirs, fabrics and antiques are in for a treat as they are readily available throughout the city.

And if you like Lebanese/Turkish style food, you'll be in for a treat.

However, it's important to note that the culture is completely different to Dubai, as men and women generally eat apart from one another, though, if you're looking for some time apart from your other half, it could be right up your street!

In most restaurants there are separate sections for men, women and family.

When I visited in 2017 with my mum and grandparents, we were all allowed to sit in the family section.

Female visitors do not need to wear a hijab in Oman, but dressing 'modestly' is highly recommended as a mark of respect.

As with the UAE, same-sex relationships are also illegal in Oman.

One way flights are can be booked for as low as £68, while the cheapest all-round trip is around £170, according to Sky Scanner.
