Ryanair is selling flights under £35 to ‘Greek Caribbean’ that has £2 pints and golden beaches

It's a stunning Mediterranean holiday spot

Ryanair is here again with another belting offer for a cheap holiday to a stunning European destination.

Millions visit Greece every year for its iconic locations - we're talking Santorini, Crete, and Mykonos to name just three.

But there's another that you can jet off to - if you're okay with a little car journey on top of your plane ride.

It's set off of Greece's west coast, and is in fact connected directly to mainland Greece via a long floating bridge.

You can also get there via ferry depending on where on the mainland you're travelling from.

With just 22,000 people living on the island, it's a quiet and beautiful location if you fancy something a little bit different and untouched from the obvious signs of mainstream tourism.

We're on about the Ionian Sea island of Lefkada, which you might have also seen referred to as Lefkas, Leukas, and Leucadia depending on the language.

The island has earned the nickname of the 'Greek Caribbean' because it is that nice, with its most famous beach being Porto Katsiki on the island's west coast.

The beach is around 35 kilometres from Lefkada City itself, which is the main hub on the island.

But it's a journey that's worth it.

It's located at the bottom of a cliff, where you can leave your hire car and make your way down.

Given its location, it's not too over-crowded and makes for an idyllic day out.

The destination is reasonably affordable when it comes to having a beer in the glorious Mediterranean sunshine, with a large beer (we're talking around 500ml) coming in at around €3.50.

Food is also reasonably priced, with a lot of local food native to Greece found in the island's bars, cafes, and restaurants.

The official tourism website for the island, Visit Greece, said: "Lefkada is surrounded by a total of 24 islets - Aristotle Onassis’ Skorpios being one of them. It connects to the opposite coast of Central Greece via a floating swing bridge (length: 50 m). The bridge offers easy access to Lefkada to visitors from all over Greece.

"On Lefkada you will find noteworthy sights, churches and monasteries, picturesque villages, lush vegetation, idyllic coves of transparent, turquoise waters, busy and secluded beaches of stunning beauty, a significant cultural heritage and hospitable locals.

"Lefkada is the island’s capital and port town. The town planning is a very particular one and resembles a “fish backbone”. There are picturesque alleys, small squares, traditional houses, elaborate belfries and paved pedestrian zones that give this town its character.

"The city is surrounded by a canal and a lagoon, while, farther north, lies Gyra, a thin stretch of a sandy beach forming a circle, dotted with windmills and scant vegetation."

Ryanair is offering one-way flights from London Stanstead to Aktion airport of Preveza, just 22km from the island - for as little as £33 - in May this year.

Happy holidays.
