If you're looking for a more affordable version of the Alps, this 'budget-friendly' alternative to Europe's most prominent mountain range might be the place for you.

Instead of forking out an arm and a leg to visit some of the highest peaks on the continent, you can head to this stunning city for a fraction of the cost.

According to Sky Scanner, it's the cheapest place for Brits to fly to this summer.

It's a popular hub for people who love hiking, skiing, history and the great outdoors, while it comes with the added bonus that you don't have break the bank to embark on an adventure here.

Poprad, a city in northern Slovakia, is quickly becoming the go-to holiday destination for a lot of Brits.

It's known as the 'entrance gate' to the High Tatras mountains, which is a stunning mountain range that gives the Alps a good run for its money.

The High Tatras is the highest mountain range in Slovakia, which boasts about 35 valleys and 110 glacial lakes, among a host of other extraordinary natural wonders.

But there is also plenty of stuff to keep you busy during a short jaunt to the overlooked city even if trekking up a mountain isn't your idea of fun - as the thermal baths might be more your speed.

Thousands of tourists flock to Poprad each year to get a much-needed dose of nature, enjoy a well-deserved break and soak up the rich history of the place.

The streets are lined with magnificent buildings, rustic architecture and breathtaking pads from the 18th and 19th centuries which have stood the test of time, so it's visually appealing in more ways than one.

There's a spindle-shaped square named Námestie sv. Egídia.Poprad which has proved a hit with holidaymakers, while people can also explore the Podtatranské múzeum and Tatra Gallery.

According to Slovakia's tourism board, the popularity of Poprad is 'continuously growing' - and the price of a trip there probably has a lot to do with it.

Sky Scanner recently ranked a host of destinations in order of how affordable they are, which comes in quite handy, given that a lot of us have been feeling the pinch in recent months.

And let's have it right, we all love a bargain.

The travel site crowned Poprad as the cheapest place for Brits explore this summer, as it explained that it's the most affordable destination to book a plane trip to in some of the busier months.

It states that the average price of a flight from the UK to Poprad in June is just £55, while it's only £54 if you decided to visit in September instead.

Now, let's get onto the really important stuff...how much will a nice cold beer set you back in this Slovakian city?

Well, a host of people who have travelled to the country reported that they paid no more €3.50 for one.

Dozens of adventurers have been sharing details of their expenses on the website Numbeo to give others an idea of what to brace for, and apparently, Poprad is cheap as chips.

According to this data, you won't pay more than €15 for a meal at an 'inexpensive restaurant', while two of you dining at a mid-range one will be about €90 maximum.

A draft beer of local origin will cost you up to €3.50, while supping imported stuff might cost you an extra €1 on top of that.

The cost of getting around is fairly reasonable too, as a one-way journey on public transport €2.

TravelDojo says that typically, tourists can rely on a budget between £37 to £88.79 per day. This is said to be enough to cover 'mountain hotels, alpine dining and thermal-spa visits'.

Don't forget to do your own research and plot out your itinerary before hightailing it to Poprad, but it's certainly a place to keep in mind while you're scouring for a great deal on a trip this summer.

Who needs the Alps, eh?
