Moment TikToker flees 'cannibal tribe' after offering them a gift that is rejected

He looked scared for his life as his guide urged him to leave

A popular TikTok star has filmed the moment he ran for his life after his gift to a remote tribe in Guinea.

Irish influencer Dara Tah has built a reputation for putting himself in dangerous situations, whether it be working alongside sulphur miners in an Indonesian volcano or spending 50 hours in an underground nuclear missile complex.

And it seems as if the trend of visiting potentially deadly tribes in unknown areas of the world is sadly on the rise, despite the often tragic consequences, as the American missionary John Allen Chau found out when he died visiting the North Sentinel Island in 2018.

Visiting the Sentinelese people is illegal, with another travel influencer arrested by local authorities after he left a can of coke on the island for the tribe to try, with them otherwise completely removed from modern society.

That didn't stop Tah from taking part though as he headed to Papua, a province of Indonesia, comprising the northern coast of Western New Guinea together with island groups in Cenderawasih Bay to the west.

It is home to an area which saw Michael Rockefeller, son of a former US vice president, go missing back in 1961.

In the shocking video, which he captioned as meeting a cannibal tribe, he and a team of tourists arrive in the jungle and are greeted by some hostile looking, scantily-clad men holding bows and arrows.

"I think they're pointing bows and arrows at us, bro," one tourist said.

"Seriously, this is terrifying," Tah said, as he waved hello to try and signify that he was there in peace. "Seriously, they are huge bows," he added.

The TikToker then offered a packet of salt as a gift to a man who was accompanied by a dog, but he clearly didn't enjoy it as he spat it out.

"Oh God, he doesn't look like he likes that," Tah said. "Alright guys, let's move back maybe."

The leader of the group then said: "We have to move. We're not welcome. It's really dangerous."

After escaping what could have been a deadly situation, Tah said: "I'm not going to lie, that was absolutely terrifying."

Unsurprisingly, Tah has now faced some backlash in his comments after putting himself, and the remote tribe, in a dangerous situation.

One comment read: "Leave them alone."

Another said: "Leave them alone and they are not cannibals."

A third said: "Who says they are cannibal? Why would you think that?"

As users point out, there is no evidence whatsoever to support Tah's claim that they are cannibals and if they actually are, perhaps seasoning yourself with salt isn't the best introduction.
