The infamous Wowcher mystery holiday deal has been doing the rounds among jet-setters as of late, with many wondering how the whole thing works, or even if it's too good to be true.

Two mates from the UK recently jetted off to New York after taking the gamble as part of the popular £99 deal.

Of course, the risk is part of the fun but these two definitely got the lucky end of the draw.

Talking about their trip with LADbible, Megan Smith, 20, said: “No matter the location you receive from the mystery holiday, the price is something you cannot complain about.

“I am 20 years old, and my friend is 18, so our only issue was we were not of drinking age!

“But that never stopped us from having a good time.”

If you're already getting a touch of the green-eyed monster, don't fret. We've broken down exactly how it all works if you fancied your chances at bagging a similar trip for less than £100.

How does the Wowcher mystery holiday work?

The risk is all part of the fun, as holiday-makers don’t know where they’re going until the £99 is paid.

There are no hidden fees or extra charges and the girls claimed to have the ‘best few days’ of their lives.

The deal includes flights and accommodation, leaving it up to you to decide where you want to eat and drink, but more importantly what you want to do when you get there!

Essentially, you purchase your £99 voucher to an unknown location and keep your fingers crossed it's somewhere good!

How are the destinations typically allocated?

The mystery holiday package is based on two adults sharing, and therefore people are required to purchase two vouchers to qualify for the £99pp or £129pp rate.

The website does state that customers who want to purchase a single voucher are welcome to do so, however there will be a single supplement fee.

As well as this, a single traveller does not qualify for tier one or tier two holidays, which include destinations such as Maldives, Dubai, New York, Las Vegas and Mexico.

Destinations are always drawn at random, but firstly based on their travel preferences including departure date and airport.

What happens if you get a destination or hotel you don’t like?

The idea of the package is that you’re open to a large number of destinations, hence the £99 fee.

The website states that if a customer is not happy with the destination that was chosen and does not wish to travel, they are not entitled to a refund.

However, customers are eligible to change their destination for an additional fee.

What happens if you can’t make the holiday anymore?

During the process, customers are able to select their preferred dates.

Due to this, customers will not be entitled to a refund for any reason related to their preferred travel dates.

If flights become delayed or cancelled, holiday-makers will be provided with a suitable alternative, or where this isn’t possible, a full refund.

Customers are entitled to a ‘change of mind refund’ within 14 days of their purchase before the redemption process has begun.

Are there any restrictions?

The Wowcher Mystery Holiday includes departure flights from most UK airports, but the website notes that regional airports have limited availability.

The hotel included in the package is a minimum three-star rating, and is based on double occupancy.

Where possible, Wowcher will always try to accommodate 40 hours in resort for two-night stays and 60 hours in resort for three-night stays.

Full terms and conditions can be found here.
