Donald Trump Elected President Exactly 27 Years After The Berlin Wall Came Down

Isn't that ironic.

The day history becomes more positive than the future is the day Donald Trump comes into power. Unless you've spent the last 24 hours hiding under a rock, which I would totally understand, that day is today!

Somewhat ironically, Trump's win in the US presidential election happens exactly 27 years after the Berlin Wall came crashing down.

While much of the world is busy licking America's wounds post-election, we just want to remind you that things could be so much worse. Wait, isn't Trump planning on erecting a huge wall, too? Oh shit.

Who could forget this moment?

In 1961, the German Demographic Republic (GDR, East Germany) wanted to control national movement by restricting emigration. It made the historic move to erect the 'Anti-Fascist Protective Wall', which was later referred to as The Berlin Wall. Its purpose was to intimidate people into submission while physically keeping East Germany and West Germany isolated. People were terrified. Out of the 5,000 attempts to escape during this period, hundreds died as a result.

November 9, 1989, was an incredible day. It was a game changer in international politics when the media was used by 'the people' to break down segregation. It did so by demolishing East Germany's huge wall. Television coverage showed citizens attacking sections of the barrier. Previously, those who tried to escape would have been stopped by pretty much any means necessary. But with the eyes of the world watching, the authorities were unable to use such extreme methods to stop the destruction. Like those who were following on their televisions, all they could do was watch the incredible people rewrite the history books.

Soon, as the word got out that the wall was coming down, crowds gathered on both sides to celebrate. Bulldozers tore down parts to reinstate ancient roads and both sides of the city were once again reunited.

On this day, Germany marks the event and calls it Germany Unity Day.

History lesson over. Are we seriously going to consider reliving such radical scenes in a different part of the world? Or will we learn the important morals that are engraved in the past? The world is watching.
