It was one of the biggest sporting events of the year, possibly the decade, and Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor actually managed to deliver the goods.

Perhaps the least disappointed man was McGregor's old opponent Jose Aldo.

There was a big possibility that Mayweather vs McGregor was going to turn into nothing more than a circus act - one that all of the hype, interviews and world tours could only fail live up to.

After all, this was a man with a professional record of 49-0 in boxing, who had beaten the likes of Arturo Gatti, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao, against a man who'd never fought in a professional boxing match.

Most of the UFC world had nothing but respect for their lightweight champion, including the man who lost to McGregor the last time the 29-year-old was in the octagon, Eddie Alvarez:

Aldo doesn't half chip off a lot about Conor McGregor.

Will we ever see a rematch between the Irishman and the Brazilian?
