One half of the British couple who won the biggest-ever jackpot on the lottery has revealed that her mum thought she was hiding a completely different secret when she went to tell her the big news. Check it out:

Joe and Jess Thwaite made history this week after being named the winners of the £184 million EuroMillions prize.

Speaking in a press conference as their identities were revealed, Jess, 44, from Gloucestershire, opened up about the moment she told her mum of her newfound wealth.

She said: “I met her in the car park and I said, ‘I’ve got something to tell you, a secret to tell you, but you have to promise not to tell anybody.’”

Jess said her mum appeared dubious, asking her: “Are you pregnant?”

The tidbit garnered laughs from the crowd, especially after Jess added that she told her mum: “Actually what I said was it’s better than being pregnant.”

A clip of the moment was shared on TikTok by CNN London Anchor Max Foster, where it’s been viewed thousands of times.

In a separate video, Joe, 49, discussed the moment he discovered they’d won the life-changing jackpot.

“I checked my emails and I had an email saying that I’d won a prize,” he said.

“I took it as the usual Lucky Dip type thing and I opened up the app, logged in and I looked at the amount and I put the phone down.

“I picked the phone up again and I looked at the amount again and at first I thought it was in thousands.”

Joe was understandably shocked when he realised how much they'd won.

When asked if he was excited about the idea of winning thousands, he said ‘yes’, adding: “I was over the moon… it was going to change our lives.”

However, Joe decided to count the digits and that’s when he realised they’d actually won millions.

News of the couple's jackpot was confirmed by lottery operator Camelot on 10 May when the winning numbers were announced as 3, 25, 27, 28 and 29, plus the Lucky Star numbers 4 and 9.

But their identities weren’t revealed until this week when they officially gained the title of the UK's largest-ever National Lottery winners.

At a grand total of £184,262,899.10, the pot is 5,781 times the UK’s average annual salary of £31,285.

Commenting on their lucky ticket, Jess said: "The win gives us time to dream which we haven’t had before.

“We’ve had one week to think about this and we now have time to share lots of experiences and go on adventures with our family and friends.”
