Man left completely stunned as hammerhead shark falls out of the sky in real life 'sharknado'

"Did that really just happen?"

A US man was left feeling like he'd walked onto the set of Sharknado after the apex predator fell from the sky while out and about.

For anyone unfamiliar with the sci-fi comedy film, its essentially about a waterspout filled with sharks falling over the city of Los Angeles and terrorising its residents.

Pretty ridiculous, I know.

However it would appear that life really does imitate art sometimes after South Carolina man Jonathan Marlowe saw the marine animal flying out the sky while he was playing a game of disc golf (a game which is a hybrid of frisbee and golf).

When Marlowe and his friends reached the 11th hole on the course they saw an Osprey flying over holding with its dinner. However, the bird of prey ended up in a struggle with some nearby crows, sending its meal hurtling to the floor.

Expecting to just find a fish, Marlowe and his friends went over to take a closer look and were surprised to see a baby Hammerhead shark lay on the floor.

"I thought it would be a random fish," Marlow told Garden and Gun of the incident. "We couldn’t believe it and kept asking ourselves, Did that really just happen?"

Which, of course, isn't as dramatic as the events of Sharknado, but would still be pretty weird to stumble across without context – which is exactly what happened to another disc golfer.

Explaining that the shark was sadly deceased when it landed, Marlowe and his group decided to leave the shark under a tree incase the bird came looking for its dinner.

The creature didn't, however meant other disc golfers were extremely confused by the shark's presence.

Recalling how another group reached out to him after he posted the image on Facebook, Marlowe added: "They were standing there in shock with no frame of reference for what could have possibly happened.

"But then they saw the post and said, ‘Thank goodness, because how do you explain a random hammerhead in the woods?'"

Which is fair enough.

The unusual incident eventually made its way onto the Myrtle Beach City Government Facebook page, featuring an image of Marlowe showing off his 'catch' in full glory.

"That’s a Land Shark," one person joked, while a second added: "Ya never know what you'll find on the disc golf course."

Meanwhile various shark aficionados were keen to point out that the doomed creature wasn't technically a Hammerhead shark but instead a Bonnethead, a creature which belongs to the Hammerhead family and grows anywhere between three and five feet, depending on gender.
