Margot Robbie snorts the Paramount logo in Babylon trailer

Robbie stars as Nellie LaRoy, an up-and-coming silent film actress in 1920s Hollywood.

Movie fanatics have been left in shock after watching the uncensored trailer for Babylon, which begins with Margot Robbie's character snorting the Paramount logo. See for yourself in the trailer below:

The blockbuster stars Margot Robbie opposite Brad Pitt as struggling silent film actor Nellie LaRoy.

Babylon documents the rise and fall of multiple early Hollywood stars amid a backdrop of heavy drug use and debauchery. The Damien Chazelle film might even more outrageous than The Wolf of Wall Street and that’s quite an achievement.

In the uncensored trailer, Robbie’s character is heard before she’s seen on screen. The rather unnerving sound of snorting can be heard as the familiar white stars around the mountain in the Paramount logo disappear one by one.

We must warn you, it's the most harsh and guttural snorting noise you’ll probably ever hear.

The first scene in the trailer shows Robbie’s Nellie, disheveled, sweaty and manic knelt by a table where there are tiny mountains of cocaine.

She then goes into an impassioned speech about her career and how she’s destined for greatness. “It’s written in the stars! I am a star!” she proclaims.

It’s fair to say people weren’t ready for what is effectively a jump scare and the ‘genius’ editing.

One Twitter user wrote: “The #Babylon trailer starts with two people snorting coke in the 1920s… and each snort takes away the Paramount logo."

They added: “It just gets crazier from there. I don’t know wtf it’s actually about, Damien Chazelle, but… I’ll admit: I’m curious.”

Another surprised viewer shared: “Does the sound of Margot Robbie snorting coke at the beginning of the Babylon trailer jump scare anyone else or is that just me.”

Someone else wrote: “Fair play to the editor of the trailer for Babylon timing the snorting of cocaine to the Paramount stars appearing.”

While a fourth Twitter user took to social media after watching the trailer at the cinema, writing: “Saw the Babylon trailer in theatres and I almost choked on my hot dog when I heard Margot Robbie snort the Paramount logo.”

Another social media user added: "Snorting the Paramount logo was genius!"

And someone else joked: “The Cocaine Bear trailer being followed by the Babylon trailer of Margot Robbie snorting the Paramount logo.....to me that's cinema.”

Robbie's character loves to party.

People have also praised the 32-year-old Australian actress for embodying the 'golden age of Hollywood' in the film.

Responding to a movie fan who hasn't yet seen Babylon, one viewer wrote: "Babylon is going to blow your mind, especially if you are already hip to the pre-code Hollywood 'happenings' — which says a lot. You're going to love it. Margot Robbie is so beyond cool poise. She embodies the golden age of Hollywood."

Babylon hits UK cinemas on 20 January 2023.
