Balding Man Who 'Looked Like Dracula' Had £5,000 Hair Transplant To Emulate David Beckham

Balding Man Who 'Looked Like Dracula' Had £5,000 Hair Transplant To Emulate David Beckham

Jamie Robinson, 31, wanted to be able to mix-up his hairdo with quiffs and slicked back styles like Becks

A David Beckham fan was determined to look like his footballing hero after hair loss left him ‘looking like Dracula’, having splashed out £5,000 on a ‘life-changing’ hair transplant.

Jamie Robinson, 31, wanted to be able to mix-up his hairdo with quiffs and slicked back styles like Becks, but his receding hairline and thinning hair made it impossible.

After his self-confidence began to dwindle thanks to ‘banter’ from colleagues – along with fears that he looked older than his years – Robinson decided to get in touch with award-winning hair transplant clinic Juvida after reading the team there had also helped Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson.

The aerospace engineer, who was 27 at the time, underwent an eight-hour procedure at the company’s Skipton clinic, with individual follicles taken from the back of his head and inserted into sparse areas of his scalp by hand.

Fast forward to 12 months later in August 2018, he found himself not only able to style his hair however he wanted, his confidence was also sent ‘through the roof’ - and he even bagged himself a girlfriend.

Jamie, from Burnley, Lancashire, said: "David Beckham was the number one guy I wanted to emulate.

"He changes his hair every six months and looks fantastic with all of them.

"The frustration was the option being taken off me. If I slicked my hair back then I looked like Dracula."

Robinson’s hair loss crept up on him in his late 20s, but he only became self-conscious when colleagues made ‘jokes’ about it.

He said: "When I was working in a factory setting, the little jabs started coming from the lads.

"They said things like 'How old are you now? One strong gust of wind and that'll be gone' and all that sort of stuff."

With no desire to travel abroad for treatment, Robinson initially thought he’d have to just put up with his thinning locks, but inspiration struck when he saw Sampson talking about his hair transplant on This Morning one day – and booked in to have the follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure in August 2018.

After the eight-hour procedure, Robinson was ‘really excited about the results’, even though the progress was a bit of a ‘waiting game’.

"It starts to grow then falls out,” he explained.

“By month three it looks like nothing had even happened but then it starts to grow back.

"The density comes between months nine and 12 and seeing those results and getting to go to my barber - my confidence just went through the roof."

Robinson quit his engineering job two years ago to work with Juvida to help others. He said: "I was so open with Juvida letting them use my pictures that I had loads of people contacting me on Instagram and Facebook.

"These were people who wouldn't talk about it openly but would happily jump into my DMs to ask questions.

"I kept in touch with Juvida and was told 'You're basically doing the job anyway, how do you fancy coming and working for us?'"

He added: "The procedure has been life-changing for me, I look younger, I feel younger and my confidence has gone through the roof.

"It's given me a new career path and I have a more fulfilled life because I get to help hundreds of men."
