TikTok Video Reveals Car Button Trick That De-Ices Windscreen In Seconds

If there’s one thing TikTok is great for, it’s sharing hacks that make our lives a little bit easier.

And one such hack arrived this week thanks to Driving Test Success’ account, which revealed that there’s a much easier way to de-ice your car during the cold winter months. You can watch the clip here:

With the winter weather showing no signs of slowing, no doubt any of you who drive have experienced waking up in the morning to find that your car windscreen has turned into an ice sheet. 

It’s the last thing you want to deal with a 7am out in the cold, and we all know that pouring hot water on it will only lead to a cracked windscreen. 

Thankfully, Driving Test Success - the UK's leading Theory Test revision company - is here to help. 

In a post shared on its TikTok page, the company wrote: “HOW TO: Defrost your windscreen.”

The video demonstrates the hack, which starts by putting the car’s temperature up high.

Next up, they explain, “Put the windscreen fan on max,” adding: “The ice will start to melt from the heat.”

All you have to do after that is wipe away any excess water and return the fan to its normal setting and hey presto - your windscreen is clear. 

Plus you’re heating your car up in the process.

A number of followers were impressed by the trick, including one who wrote: “Wow magic! The ice is gone.”

Others, however, weren’t as impressed, with one commenting: “Surely everyone already knows this.”

But for those of you who don’t normally use this method, it could just make that morning commute a little more bearable. 

The same goes for a different de-icing method, which went viral back in 2019 when one savvy motorist had the idea of filling up a plastic food bag with warm water and sliding it across the windscreen.

Daniel Harris shared a video of himself demonstrating the trick on Facebook, writing: "Hot water in a food bag and bam you've got a de-icer and a hand warmer. Works a treat, and it's fast!"

He was quick to warn his friends and followers, however, that it was just 'warm water' and not boiling.

"I used warm tap water so I could safely hold it and lower the risk of cracking my screen,” Daniel added.

“The de-icer cans are so cold in the morning and this way keeps you nice and toasty.”

All you need to do next is make sure that all the glass is clear before braving the roads. With any luck, you'll be swearing to yourself while stuck in traffic in no time.
