Chris Evans has revealed whether or not he’d return to the role of Captain America, and his answer was a little… meh.

Evans is currently doing the press rounds for his upcoming film Lightyear, and the star was asked whether or not he’d consider playing Steve Rogers again.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America returned each infinity stone to its proper point in time, however, the mission took place off screen.

Acknowledging fans would love to see Rogers actually carry out the mission, Evans said: “That seems to be something people would like to see.”

Speaking to Comicbook.com, the actor said that although he knew fans were dying to see Captain America back in action, the superhero’s return would be a ‘tall order’.

Evans explained: "I don't want to disappoint anybody but it's tough to... It was such a good run and I'm so happy with it.

"It's so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order."

In January 2021, reports circulated that Evans would reprise his role as Captain America, adding that the actor was in talks with Marvel Studio bosses to negotiate a deal.

However, Evans appeared to shut down rumours, tweeting shortly after articles were published: “News to me.”

Right now, Evans has another superhero on his mind as he kicks off the promotional tour for his new film Lightyear.

One for the Toy Story heads, Lightyear gives fans an insight into Buzz’s life before he met Woody and the gang, and Evans voices everyone’s favourite plastic space ranger.

The film hits cinemas on June 17 and is described as a 'sci-fi action-adventure' which is set to present 'the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy'.

Speaking about the project in a statement published on Disney earlier this year, Evans gushed: “The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life.

"Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else.”

He added: "Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”
