People lose it as Lift soft drink officially discontinued in Australia

Aussie soft drink lovers, you may want to sit down for this.

Coca Cola has officially announced that they are discontinuing Lift.

Instead, it will be replaced by a new Sprite flavour.

So, there you have it. Aussie hangovers will never be the same again.

Consumers will no longer be able to purchase ready-to-go bottles of Lift or Fanta Lemon, as it’s known overseas, from Australian supermarkets from the end of the year until the end of time.

“Ready-to-drink formats of Lift will be phased out of stores by the end of September 2022, except for Glass 330mL which will be phased out by the end of 2022,” a Coca Cola spokesperson said as per news.com.au.

Despite the beverage company swiping the popular fizzy drink off shelves, Coca-Cola shared the new flavour Sprite Lemon+ would take its place.

“After listening to our customers, our focus is on our new Sprite Lemon+ range, which we believe will be popular with our existing Lift drinkers,” the spokesperson added.

We're sure Lift lovers don't feel listened to, but whatever.

The rumours of the lemony drink being killed off faster than a Games of Thrones character began to fizzle in July after a popular TikToker by the name of ‘Russ.Eats’ spilt that the beverage would be axed.

In the video that has now been viewed over 150,000 times, Russ announces: “Righto, so I heard a rumour today that I wanted youse (sic) to hear from me first.

“Lift is being put down, sent to the junk food graveyard”.

The foodie Confucius continued: “It is however being replaced by Sprite Lemon, which I already find a bit confusing.

“And they’ve added caffeine to it — so if your kids like a lemony soft drink they’re going to have to stick to these three because you don’t want them getting caffeine into them.

“They’re annoying as f**k already.”

As users reacted to the shocking news, some questioned if the drink had changed its recipe.

One person wrote: “Lift changed to a really tangy mix which killed it for me. Solo or pub squash is where it’s at.”

Another said: “Lift changed their recipe a while back to be made with [a] sugar alternative, they were probably trying to save it then.”

While another commented: “Lift on tap at Maccas would be a Godsend.”

Many were left reeling at the horrific news.

One person didn't know how to come to terms with the loss and simply wrote: "WHAT."

Another said: "Nooooooo!!!"

While a third person commented: "Noooooooooooo. It’s literally my favourite soda."

For Aussies grieving over this news, maybe it’s time to pay a trip to New Zealand as the island country has no plans to discontinue the drink anytime soon.

Rest in power, Lift.

You were the true MVP.
