A husband who murdered his wife and a stranger in a bizarre BDSM plot has discovered his fate.
Brendan Banfield, a 39-year-old from Virginia, was arrested back in 2024 after being accused of killing his wife Christine after starting an affair with his family's au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes.
The husband devised a plot that involved luring Joe Ryan, a man from a bondage, fetishism and kink website to their home in Fairfax, Virginia with the promise of sex with his wife.
However, as soon as Ryan entered the home, he was shot in the head by Brendan, who then stabbed his wife with the plan of framing the stranger for her murder.

Unfortunately for the former law enforcement officer, Magalhaes would agree a plea deal with police before testifying against Banfield in court, which recently led to him receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
“The level of cruelty, calculation and inhumanity in this case reflects something far deeper than anger or impulse — it reflects evil, which is why I carry no burden and find no hesitation in sentencing you to life,” Judge Penney S. Azcarate said, per CNN, as she handed down the sentence.

“The disregard of the life of your wife, someone you supposedly loved, is almost unfathomable,” she added.
Prosecutors in the trial explained how Banfield had created a profile on the website pretending to be his wife before starting to communicate with Ryan about a 'consensual sexual encounter involving restraints used on her, her clothing being cut off with a knife he brought, and other violent sexual roleplay'.
After the stranger made it clear that he was willing to participate, Banfield hatched a plan with Magalhaes in that she would ring Christine's phone the moment Ryan entered the home.
“He made Brendan feel confident enough that he would be the person to play the role that he needed a person to play, which means being aggressive and hold her down and come over to the house and bring stuff,” Peres Magalhaes testified, per CNN.

Magalhaes pleaded guilty to manslaughter after admitting to shooting the stranger again while he lay on the floor following the first shot from Banfield.
However, she claims that she couldn't watch as he went to murder his wife and the mother of their four-year-old child.
“When I first saw that happening, I ran to the other side of the bed, and I was just crouching down … and covering my ears and covering my eyes,” she recalled. "And a few times I looked, and I was able to see him stabbing her.”
The judge made it clear that Banfield wouldn't be up for parole because of the complete disregard for his own daughter, who he 'took everything from'.
She suggested that his horrific plan involved 'luring a completely innocent man into your deadly trap; continuing on after the murders without a care; and not once — not once — thinking of the impact [on his daughter.]'
