People from around the world have been flooding into London to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II as she lies in state.

There have been a few famous faces in the now notorious queue to see her coffin, including none other than football legend David Beckham, 47.

The celebrated former football player was spotted by fans in the queue, and they were quick to greet and photograph the star.

While many politicians entered a fast-track queue for the lying in state, Beckham joined what's been described as the 'people's queue'.

Thankfully, the footballer was happy to meet his fans when he joined the queue at 2am and even kindly bought everyone waiting doughnuts.

Beckham's appearance in the queue caused some disruption, the Daily Mail reports, and gaps began to form when some mourners were distracted from moving forwards.

He was smartly dressed in a black suit and flat cap as he waited.

The former footballer reportedly had 'mutual respect' from his fellow mourners, who he told he'd happily pose for photographs with after he'd paid his respects to the Queen.

One Twitter user wrote at the time that Beckham was 'just a few lines behind us in the snake'.

They added: "The Queue is now full of people trying to photograph David Beckham and forgetting to actually move onwards.

"It's madness!

"I feel a bit sorry for him, but he's taking it very well.

"It's made me almost forget that we've been in The Queue almost TWELVE HOURS though."

"David Beckham doesn't mind a long queue and even brought doughnuts for the people around him," praised a second social media user, adding: "Knight this man already."

David Beckham went on to open up about his memories of the queen in an interview with Sky News.

He said: "Our thoughts are with the family, it's very special to hear all of the stories from people here.

"The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me who were huge royalists.

"I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life to be around Her Majesty.

"It's a sad day, but a day to remember."

Beckham was interviewed at around 2pm today (September 16), which means that he spent over 12 hours in the queue that is currently closed because it is so large.
