Johnny Depp's film career might have taken a hit in light of the allegations from and ongoing court battle with Amber Heard, but in fragrance world he's still as box office as ever - with Dior apparently selling a bottle of Sauvage, the perfume Depp is the face of, every three seconds last year.

The claim was shared by Twitter user John Pompliano who cited a January 2022 article from Marie Claire where they dropped the mind-boggling stat.

Pompliano went a step further, working out just how much money Depp's fragrance was making Dior.

He tweeted: "Despite most labels dropping Johnny Depp, @Dior decided to stick with him.

"Why?

"They sell a bottle of his fragrance 'Sauvage' every 3 seconds. At $160 a bottle, that's over $4.5 million a day in sales."

That's a hell of a lot of money and so it's no surprise that the perfume giant have decided to keep him on their books.

It also suggests that that being dumped by the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and the Fantastic Beasts series hasn't meant that the actor is struggling to keep himself above the poverty line.

After Depp lost a libel case against The Sun newspaper in 2020 after they called him a 'wife beater' in a published article, he was dropped by several big name companies, including Warner Bros when he was fired from their film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

At the time there were several calls for Dior to follow suit.

He has been the face of Sauvage fragrance since its launch in 2015, but after losing his case, a spokesperson for the Advertising Standards Authority said: "We have received a total of 11 complaints about this ad with the complainants believing that Johnny Depp shouldn't be in the ad due to details concerning his recent court case."

PR agent Mark Bokowski also argued that Depp should be dropped.

Speaking to The Guardian, he said: "I think it would be sensible for Dior to sever links with Depp. Anything can be stopped by pressing a button if they really wanted to.

"A brand like Dior is not just looking at this territory. The attitude [toward Depp] in the UK will be very different to the one in eastern Europe, for example.

"Brands hope for short-term memory loss and long-term amnesia.

"These fashion companies live in their own bubble, it's like The Devil Wears Prada. They live in a world where they are used to facing controversy."

However, Dior has stuck by its man and the perfume looks to have weathered the ongoing controversy surrounding Depp.
