Tom Daley's husband faces trial for 'assaulting woman in nightclub'

Tom Daley's husband appeared in court after allegedly getting into an altercation with a woman at a nightclub.
In the early hours of the morning on Thursday, 18 August, 2022, police were called to Freedom nightclub in London.
Dustin Lance Black and Daley had reportedly been out at the club when they bumped into party planner on BBC Three's Big Proud Party Agency, Teddy Edwardes.
The group ended up joining together, however, Lance Black and Edwardes later became embroiled in a dispute.
Lance Black appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today (Thursday, 27 April 2023) via a video link in relation to the incident, as per The Sun.
Shortly after the alleged incident took place last August, Edwardes took to social media to give her side of the story claiming she bumped into Daley and Lance Black on her night out and ended up sitting together. She said she asked another 'random' person to leave her table and alleges Lance Black responded by throwing a drink over her.
The TV personality continued: "I didn’t have a drink to throw back so I did choose violence, but I wasn’t that violent he got a little tap on the head. Tell me why he is crying outside saying it’s a targeted attack and he’s traumatised and called the police, so I have to wait for hours and now I have been cautioned and have to go in for interviews.
"For everyone asking what happened, we basically invited them to where we were sitting and I bought them some drinks etc, everything was fine. And then this random guy came and sat with us and my friend said they felt uncomfortable because they didn’t know who it was so I asked security if they could move them on…
"The security came to move them on and Tom’s husband started going mad saying how welcome I’ve made him feel and that was leaving, so I was like OK. Then got straight drink thrown in my face."
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police told the Mirror at the time: "Police were called at 00:29hrs on Thursday, 18 August to a club in Wardour Street following reports of an altercation involving a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s."
At court today, Lance Black reportedly denied assault by beating.
According to the Sun, Black has been released on unconditional bail and a trial date has been set for 8 August, 2023.
A representative for Lance Black told LADbible: "Mr. Black was surprised and saddened to learn that after the other person involved in this unfortunate incident took responsibility and expressed remorse for a punch to the back of Mr. Black’s head - which left him with a life altering concussion - a decision was made to now examine the matter of a spilled drink in a court of law.
"Of course Mr. Black will respect the process, and in the meantime will continue to focus on being a loving father and husband. "
