Former England and Premier League striker Andy Carroll is facing the possibility of jail after being charged with breaching a non-molestation order.
The 36-year-old, who previously played for clubs including Newcastle United and Liverpool, was arrested earlier this year following an incident that allegedly took place in March. Police confirmed that Carroll was detained at Stansted Airport shortly after arriving back in the UK from France.
According to reports, the former England international was stopped by Border Force officers at passport control before police were called to the scene. A source speaking at the time of his arrest described a tense situation as officers intervened in a busy airport setting.
According to The Sun, the source said: “It seemed as if an issue was flagged up to the Border Force officers at passport control at Stansted, which led to police being called. He was questioned then taken away...It caused quite a kerfuffle as there were lots of other passengers around where he was arrested.”

Essex Police later confirmed the charge, stating: “A man has been charged with breaching a non-molestation order. Andrew Carroll, 36, of Epping, was arrested on April 27 and the alleged offences relate to an incident in March. He is due to appear at Chelmsford magistrates' court on December 30.”
Non-molestation orders are designed to protect individuals from harassment, threats or unwanted contact, and breaching one is treated as a criminal offence. If found guilty, Carroll could face penalties ranging from a fine to a custodial sentence.
Carroll earned nine caps for England during his career and was once one of the most high-profile strikers in English football. He rose to prominence at Newcastle United before securing a big-money move to Liverpool in 2011. Injuries and inconsistency later hampered his career, with spells at West Ham, West Brom, and Reading.
In more recent years, Carroll has been playing outside the professional leagues. He currently turns out for National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge, having returned to England after stints with French clubs Amiens and Bordeaux.

Off the pitch, Carroll’s personal life has also been under public scrutiny.
He split from his estranged wife, former TOWIE star Billi Mucklow, in 2024 after a turbulent two-year marriage. Divorce proceedings reportedly began earlier this year. He is now in a relationship with make-up artist Lou Teasdale, with the pair said to have met at Glastonbury.
Carroll is expected to appear before magistrates later this month on December 30, where the court will decide the next steps in the case.
