Facebook users warned to activate three settings immediately

The settings are crucial in making sure your account is safe and secure.

If you've not updated your Facebook security settings for a while, it might be time to review your profile.

Facebook users are being warned to activate three specific settings, to make sure their accounts are as safe and secure as possible.

As of July this year, there were an estimated 2.9 billion Facebook users worldwide, which is why the platform has introduced extra security settings to make sure the billions of users across the globe are at a smaller risk of having their accounts' security compromised.

The feature, called Security Checkup, is key to making sure your security settings are as water tight as possible.

Facebook explain: "You can use Security Checkup to review and add more security to your account.

"Security Checkup is currently available to people logged in to Facebook on a computer, or the latest version of the Facebook for Android or Facebook for iOS app."

The check will help you get alerts when someone tries logging into your account from an unrecognised computer or mobile device.

It will also help you learn how best to protect your password, and it'll enable two-factor authentication, which is optional, but adds more security to your Facebook account.

To begin, you need to first head over to Facebook and tap the three lines to find the menu (or, if you're on a computer, click your photo icon on the top right).

Select Settings & Privacy, and then Settings, before clicking Security and Login or Password and Security.

From here, you can 'Check Your Important Security Settings'. If your account is fully updated and protected, you'll be taken to a screen that reads: "You're all set. No security actions are recommended at this time."

However, if you still need to boost your security, there are three areas to look at. The first is a password review to make sure your login is strong and complex enough.

You'll then have the option of turning on 'two-factor authentication', which verifies your account via a text message or email. Finally, 'Login Alerts' will notify you if your account is logged into on a different device.

"We'll tell you if someone logs in to your account from a device or browser you don't normally use," Facebook explain.

If this does happen, you can log out of any unrecognised sessions and change your password as soon as possible.
