Aldi Is Selling Pigs In Blankets With Extra Hot Chilli Sauce

Whether Christmas is for you or not, there is one thing I think most of us can get on board with: the roast dinner.

And while families all have their own ways of doing it - will there be sprouts this year? Will we have turkey? - one constant is the humble pig in a blanket. It's a masterpiece of culinary engineering: a tiny piece of sausage wrapped snugly inside a slice of crispy bacon.

But if you thought such a thing could not be improved, the folks over at Aldi have given it a bash and have this year launched their Scorpion Chilli Pigs in Blankets.

Priced at just £2.29 for a 240g packet, the supermarket chain's new addition is made 'EXTRA hot with specially sourced Scorpion Chillis from Trinidad' and will be available from Wednesday 28 November.

And if that wasn't enough, Aldi says: "They're Red Tractor approved and made from 100% British Pork, so you can rest easy knowing you and your dinner guests are getting the best quality meat at the everyday amazing prices we all love."

I don't know about you, but that made me breathe a deep sigh of relief.

Now, before you head out to pick up a packet for the festive feed, let's just put this news into a little more context.

The scorpion chilli is thought to be one of the hottest chillies in the world. Tests by a laboratory in 2011 measured a specimen of the chilli at 1,463,70 on the Scoville rating, ranking it as the hottest in the world at the time.

So, if this sounds too rich for your blood, maybe look somewhere else for your festive-themed treat.

And if you find yourself in this category, then you're in luck as the main fast-food chains have also launched their Christmas menus, which are slightly less daring.

Joining the list of classics at McDonald's this year is newbie the Chicken Deluxe with Zesty Tomato Relish. According to Maccies, this one comes with two pieces of crispy chicken, tomato relish, cool mayo, cheese, lettuce, and red onion rings, all packed into a square glazed sesame seed-topped bun.

Or if that doesn't sound like your bag, how about KFC? It's added three new dishes to its menu; the KFC Festive Burger, Festive Fries, and a new Mint Choc Krushem Soft Serve.

Mmm, doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy inside?
