A customer at a restaurant in Germany was disgusted when they ordered a 'salad' that turned out to be just a plate of tomatoes.

A Reddit user, going by the name Tourist Gandi14, posted a snap of their order that they received while after 'a long mudflat hiking tour' on the German island of Amrum.

The disgruntled diner claims they forked out €6 (£5.40) for the dish but were utterly disappointed when it arrived at their table.

After sharing the snap on the subreddit 'sh****yfoodporn', other users piled in to share their disbelief and horror at the expensive 'meal'.

Commenting on the post, one person said: "'Jeez. Not even a bit if salt and pepper. That's rough."

While a second dismayed: "That salad is sadder than my life."

But this definitely isn't the first time a dish hasn't quite lived up to a diner's expectations.

Back in 2017, Leeds teenager Gabbie Jarvis, 17, was stunned by what turned up at the table when her vegan sister Georgina, 19, ordered a 'salad', and took to Twitter to vent her confusion.

She told Mirror Online: "We were out to dinner as a family. A member of staff came out to greet us and my dad asked if they catered for vegans. The man claimed they did.

"Georgina originally ordered a vegetarian pizza with no cheese but serving staff came out and told us shortly after that it had egg in it and she should look at the salads.

"When it arrived, me and Georgina shared awkward eye contact and I couldn't help but laugh."

While there's no denying that the plate of food delivered to Georgina was most definitely vegan, it wasn't exactly Michelin star quality.

Gabbie quickly did what any teenager would have done and seized the opportunity to take a few snaps, posting them to Twitter where her post has racked up almost 50,000 likes and 12,000 retweets.

Gabbie added: "She is used to eating raw vegetables and she was hungry so she ate it all but asked for a bread roll to accompany it (no butter)."

Unsurprisingly, Gabbie's story piqued the interest of many people on social media, with most amused and perplexed by her unfortunate story.

One commenter, however, wasn't full of sympathy for the teen, writing: "Woman asks for vegetables, Woman gets vegetables, Woman not happy, Woman needs to cheer up."
