Factory workers in Cuba have been arrested after stealing almost 3,000lbs of cheese from a state-owned factory, according to Cuban network Canal Caribe.

The outlet reports that authorities arrested four employees from the Holguín Dairy Company after they transported 1,485lbs of cheese, which had allegedly been stolen from a factory in the eastern municipality of Holguín.

In total, they are believed to have robbed 2,945lbs of the beloved dairy product, having reportedly taken it from the factory and transported it to two homes just several yards from the warehouse.

The cheese was then stored there for an unspecified amount of time, before it was transferred to a nearby property - where the cheese was kept inside a commercial refrigerator, which had been hidden in an air-conditioned room.

According to police, the cheese was then mainly sold on the black market, having been flogged to restaurant owners.

After being arrested, the suspects were charged with theft and unlawful possession of stolen goods.

It's certainly a bold move to mess with a stash of cheese - which is one of the major food groups for many dairy lovers.

In fact, one nine-year-old girl in the US loves it so much that she came up with an ingenious storage hack for her cheese, having stuffed it inside an empty lip balm tube so that she can eat it in class.

Last year, her mum Valerie Schremp Hahn went viral after sharing a photo of the pioneering product, writing: "My 9-year-old daughter has taken an old lip balm tube and filled it with cheese so she can eat it in class."

After Hahn's post went viral, her innovating unnamed child ended up speaking to BuzzFeed News about the nifty trick, saying: "I just found that [the lip balm tube], cleaned it out with some soap, and started filling it with cheese.

"You can lick it and no one will know. At first I didn't tell them [her friends] and I was like licking the, quote, 'cheese,' and then I told them it was cheese and they just started laughing so hard.

"I'm just impressed that anybody would, like, like this out of all things. Cheese is amazing."

It is amazing, to be fair.
