'Brutal' GoPro footage shows moment daredevil jumps off highest peak of the alps in wingsuit

Wingsuit pilot Johannes had everyone's teeth clenching with his incredible raw GoPro footage

Terrifying GoPro footage has captured the jaw clenching journey of a daredevil who jumped off the highest peak in the Alps wearing a wingsuit.

Wingsuit piliot and base jumper Johannes filmed the epic flight on a GoPro strapped to his body as he leapt from the top of Täschhorn, dubbed 'one of the highest, finest and least accessible 4000m mountains.'

The thrill seeker spent nine hours climbing up the mountain before spending a night Mischabeljoch bivouac, a high-altitude shelter known for its spaceship-like design.

Despite the challenging ascent, Johannes and his climbing partner Mario successfully made it to the top of the mountain, got their wingsuits on and made the leap, all while carrying all their equipment.

Just a word of warning to anyone scared of heights, this isn't an easy watch...

There are so many moments in that video where it appears to the untrained eye that Johannes, who hails from Austria, is going to plummet straight into the side of the mountain.

Despite noting the flight came after 'years of dreaming' and being in perfect weather conditions, the jump didn't completely go to plan.

"After 40 seconds of flying, my arms got really tired so I couldn't hold the glide and had to fly steeper," he wrote alongside the YouTube video.

"Unfortunately, it was not getting much better and it was becoming a serious problem as I could hardly feel my fingers."

Reminiscing over the event, Johannes said there was a nice cold beer waiting for him when he made his safe landing, but he still had no idea what'd happened to his arms.

"Was it the altitude or the heavy bag?" he questioned. "I was exhausted as f*** and glad we got back safely. What a mission. What a Mountain!"

And it seems we're not the only ones impressed by the incredible footage Johannes captured, with one YouTube follower describing the visuals as 'spellbinding.'

"No chit-chat, no dramatic music, no whopping that it was awesome," they wrote. "That was pure unadulterated courage, beauty and craft, at the very edge of human endeavour. Thanks for the view and the flight Johannes. It was utterly spellbinding."

Another commented: "Your shadow got really big a few times there, had me on the edge of my seat. You are one crazy human my friend."

A third added: "I was absolutely freaking out in each mountain crest, screaming to the screen, 'mate, head left to the open valley safely!' What a superman you are. 100 percent respect!"
