Christina Applegate doesn't 'leave the house anymore' as she gives heartbreaking update on health

The Married… with Children was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021

Christina Applegate has admitted that she doesn't 'leave the house anymore' in heartbreaking new admission about life with multiple sclerosis.

The Married… with Children star revealed that she'd been diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease back 2021.

According to the NHS, multiple sclerosis (MS) occurs when the body's immune system attacks the protective covering around the brain and spinal cord, with common symptoms including: experiencing a numbness or a tingling sensation in parts of the body, fatigue and issues with vision.

There is currently no known cure for MS, however, treatments which can slow its progression and help with symptoms.

Applegate has spoken candidly about her experience with the condition in interviews and on her podcast MeSsy, which includes her devastating admissions about 'not enjoying living' and lying in bed 'screaming' due to excruciating symptoms.

The 53-year-old recently appeared alongside her podcasting partner, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, on an episode of Conan O'Brien's show Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, where she revealed how the condition means she now spends most of her time at home.

"I don't really leave the house anymore." she explained during the episode, which premiered yesterday (5 May), adding: "If people saw what my life was like on the daily, they wouldn't they wouldn't be able to do it. Because I can sometimes not do it. It's really, really hard,"

Applegate went on to discuss the stigma which is often associated with chronic conditions, revealing that people will often ask her questions such as 'how did you get it?', which the actor believes is another way of saying she 'must have done something wrong in my life to have this disease'.

Referencing her 2008 breast cancer diagnosis, which saw the Dead to Me actor undergo a double mastectomy, she continued: "It's, like, I had breast cancer as well, so, 'Oh, you must have done something'."

Applegate added while that she's 'used to' hearing people's stigma around illness now, it was difficult for her in the past.

"But for a while it was so hard to swallow because, why the F would you think that I would do something to have this," she said.

"Because this is the worst thing I've ever had in my life. It's the worst thing I've ever gone through."

She also shared what her initial symptoms were in the run up to her 2021 diagnosis, which included losing her sense of balance and extreme pain.

"I was losing balance, but the pain was extraordinary. And when I say numb, it's numb, but it hurts," she added. "This is the worst thing I've ever had in my life."
