A study has revealed that men should have sex twice a week if they want to lower the chances of a significant health risk.
There are a lot of benefits to getting intimate with a partner, or even yourself, whether it's reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep or a stronger immune system.
On the other hand, if you'll pardon the pun, there are also some benefits when it comes to extended periods of celibacy, which is perhaps why we've seen some folks embrace the concept of 'No Nut November' recently.
For better or worse, people are becoming more and more sex positive, particularly when it comes to sharing everything that goes on in their bedroom online. Not everybody needs a podcast, folks.

So whether you've been with the same childhood sweetheart all your life or Bonnie Blue is your personal hero and mentor, a study conducted in 2010 suggests that the minimum men should be aiming for is twice a week.
Naturally, twice a week might sound like a lot, or not much at all, depending on the age and relationship status of the person you're asking. But achieving that should be the goal for most blokes if they want to avoid increasing the risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks.

The study saw American researchers investigate more than 1000 men, and they found that men who enjoy regular sex are 45 per cent less likely to develop life-threatening heart conditions than men who have sex once a month or less.
Scientists at the New England Research Institute in Massachusetts suggested that the benefits of sex could be due to both the physical and emotional effects on the body.

They reviewed men between the ages of 40 and 70, taking into account their age, weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which would be other risk factors for heart disease.
At regular points over a 16-year period, each man was quizzed on how often they had sex and then checked for signs of heart disease.

Overall, men who desire frequent sexual activity and can engage in it are likely to be healthier.
For those of you who want healthy hearts but don't have the partner or the people skills to have sex regularly, then fear not. A doctor has also spoken out on exactly how much masturbation you should be doing to keep the clock - or something that rhymes with that - perhaps, ticking.

If twice a week simply isn't enough, then feel free to up those rookie numbers, as any form of cardio can only be a good thing for the heart.
