A woman has been left in a medical nightmare after undergoing plastic surgery which resulted in her buttocks having to be chopped off.

40-year-old Yered Licona had a dream of having the perfect body, but it all seemed to come crashing down during a trip to Canada.

The Mexican comedian was on a flight to the North American country when she began to feel discomfort in her bum cheeks.

Licona boasts a large following of over two million on Instagram, who have been updated throughout her experience.

In the middle of her flight, she felt her posterior turn rock hard and sensing that 'something was wrong', she rushed to the toilet to check it out.

"It started to hurt and I went to the bathroom and I felt my bum and it was really hard," she revealed. "I thought to myself 'What's going on?'."

It was later discovered by medical professionals that polymers that were injected into Yered's bum during a cosmetic procedure had leaked and infected the tissue around it.

Licona was told that she was suffering from ASIA syndrome, which stands for autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants, a rare medical condition.

Adjuvants are basically a drug or method that enhances the effectiveness of medical treatment, like a catalyst.

Israeli immunologist Yehuda Shoenfeld is responsible for first identifying the condition, which she said was caused by the body's overreaction to things like silicone, a common presence in cosmetic surgeries.

Victims of ASIA syndrome may suffer from acute pain, cognitive problems, fatigue, neurological issues and a number of other ailments.

ASIA can occur at anytime from two days to 23 years after exposure to certain substances, such as silicone, which can trigger it.

Unfortunately, Licona cannot track down and punish the responsible party, as she isn't sure when the silicone was injected into her butt due to the fact that she underwent numerous cosmetic procedures.

The only thing she can say with certainty is that she never agreed to have polymers injected into her body: "I trusted a doctor to tune my body, and without warning they injected polymers into my buttocks, a substance that gave me the ASIA Syndrome, which I will have to deal with for the rest of my existence."

The comedian can be seen in a video taken in Mexico City hospital, where she underwent a surgery that removed almost three quarters of tissue from her backside.

Footage posted on social media showed Licona smiling on as she was being wheeled away by doctors.

"They amputated just the upper part, which was around four fingers width from both buttocks," she explained.

"That's why I'm devastated, it was an amputation, it was a piece of flesh that was taken from me.

"But I can't point to someone as responsible because I don't know. But at no stage did anyone say to me 'we're going to inject this into your body'."

She concluded: "Imagine my surprise, I went for a dream body and ended up in a medical nightmare."
