Woman who lost six stone while taking Mounjaro shares four things she wishes she knew before

Lucy has been documenting her weight loss journey online

A woman whose lost six stone from taking Mounjaro has revealed the four things she wished she'd been told before starting her journey.

Both Mounjaro and Wegovy are now being rolled out to patients across the UK after being approved on the NHS, meaning Brits eligible for the treatment will be able to access the medication much easier than before.

How does Mounjaro work on the body?

Originally formulated for the treatment of diabetes, Mounjaro works by suppressing a person's appetite through the active ingredient tirzepatide.

Combined with increased exercise and dietary changes, patients have been able to completely overhaul their health and bodies.

One success story is mum Lucy Davies, who has been documenting her weight-loss journey via her TikTok account (@insightfullucy) after starting the medication in September 2024.

Now six stone down from her starting weight, Lucy has revealed the four things she wished she'd been told before beginning her journey.

So what advice does Lucy have for people beginning their journey?

Stock up on peppermint tea

Before taking your first injection, make sure you've made a trip to the local supermarket to pick up a box of peppermint tea bags.

"Peppermint tea is your best friend," Lucy wrote on the slide. "It helps with nausea and to settle the stomach."

According to Healthline, peppermint tea is believed to relax muscles in the body's digestive tract, which helps reduce symptoms of nausea.

The drink is also recommended by the NHS for helping with feeling sick, with ginger tea suggested as an alternative for anyone who isn't a fan of a minty tea.

Put down the fizzy drinks

Make sure you don't add any fizzy drinks to the trolley when you're grabbing the tea bags, as carbonated sodas will have the opposite reaction on your stomach.

"It will give you the worst indigestion and make you feel sick," she added.

Up your water intake

Lucy also recommended increasing your water intake while using the medication, as she found it helped combat the sickness symptoms. "More water, less side effects," she explained.

The advice is backed up by Simple Online Pharmacy, who suggest anyone using GLP-1 or GIP medication, as dehydration will make any increase your risk of experiencing side effects.

The amount of water you need to consume varies from person-to-person, however Public Health England recommend drinking 6–8 glasses of fluid a day and aiming for your urine to be a pale yellow colour.

Make sure you're eating enough

Lucy's last piece of information is keep track of the amount of calories you consume.

As Mounjaro makes people feel fuller for longer it becomes much easier to spend longer without eating, meaning it's important to make sure you're still providing the body with energy.

An Eli Lilly spokesperson previously told LADbible about the side effects of Mounjaro: "Mounjaro (tirzepatide) should only be used when prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional, and prescriptions should be fulfilled and supplied by registered pharmacies or providers.

"We encourage patients to consult their doctor or other healthcare professional to discuss any possible side effects they may be experiencing and to ensure that they are getting genuine Lilly medicine.”
