Every year, the cold snap turns up unannounced and we have to bundle up in jumpers or whack up the thermostat. But this year, shoppers are prepared.

With news that energy bills are set to rise by 10% from October 1, money-saving expert Martin Lewis has advised Brits to ‘heat the human, not the home’ as a last resort if they are struggling to afford their bills; in other words, bundle up in heated blankets, hot water bottles, and gloves.

To beat the cold amidst the cost of living crisis, Brits are rushing to buy an affordable heated blanket that won't break the bank - and it costs less than 3p per hour to run.

A 120w blanket like this one consumes 0.12kwh of energy every hour. At the current energy price cap level of 24.5p per kwh, this means it costs just under 3p per hour to run the electric blanket (and running it for eight hours would cost just 21p).

TikTok user @janinekxx shared an unboxing of the viral £36.95 blanket on her page, hailing it a ‘god send in the winter’.

The video received a lot of positive reactions. One user commented, “I agree, they’re amazing. Can’t wait for the colder nights now.” A second user added: “I’ve got mine, can’t wait to use it.”

Another TikToker by the name of @victoriaxunderwood also shared a review of the ‘warm and snuggly’ blanket that’s ‘seeing her through’ the cold spell.

Over on Amazon, the reactions are just as positive. On the shopping platform, it’s already received hundreds of rave reviews with customers praising the product for helping them to save on electricity bills.

“A life saver when you have to be careful with your energy bills,” one wrote.

Another customer added: “Hubby didn’t want to put the heating on because of the cost of living! This kept me warm instead.”

A third is a particular fan of the fact that the heated blanket is machine washable. “I love that this blanket is machine washable,” they wrote. “Its power output is 120 watts too which is quite low. So, if you use this as an aid to staying warm without putting the house heating on, it shouldn’t be costing you an arm and a leg.”

“120 watts gives you about eight hours of use for a kilowatt hour if you want to do your calculations for the monthly budget.”

Why do people love it?

The heated blanket has received a lot of love because of its affordable price tag and the fact that it's machine washable. There are nine heat settings to choose from and it will automatically turn off to prevent overheating.

Where can I buy the viral heated blanket?

The heated blanket is available to buy now on Amazon for £36.95. But don't wait until winter, it’s sure to sell out when the weather takes a turn.
