Everything that happens to your body if you stop having sex

It'll have quite the impact on you

So, you're having a dry spell...

If you have gone from the state of being of having sex to no longer having sex, then there's going to be some changes going on with your body.

Some couples reckon that taking a break can actually have some benefits once the intimacy resumes, with a therapist saying it could indeed help make things more enjoyable.

Then again, other experts say that if you're not getting enough action in the bedroom it might have some penalties to your health, so get boinking for the sake of your personal health.

For men, there's one potential major impact which could occur through a lack of sex, according to sex and relationship expert Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn.

She told the Daily Mail that in some rare cases, something called 'penile atrophy' might occur.

She explained that the tissue of a man's ding-a-ling might become less elastic without use, which might cost men one or two precious centimetres of length.

Given how obsessed some menfolk are about penile proportions, that seems like a bit of a concern.

That's not all though, as she added that going a month without any rumpy-pumpy could cause a person's stress levels to rise, as sex can help with anxiety and depression.

Dr. Suwinyattichaiporn explained that people are all different, so going without sex would impact everyone differently.

Meanwhile, a study into the effects of celibacy found that generally it wouldn't be too physically detrimental to your body to go without sex, but that the health benefits of having sex were clear.

Basically, you're missing out on a good time and a healthy activity as regular sex can boost your immune system, lower your blood pressure and give you superior cardiovascular health.

For women, having sex can help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, which helps keep incontinence at bay.

Not having sex can also lead to something called vaginal atrophy, where the tissue becomes thin and dry.

The lack of sex may cause some problems with mental health, but those can then have other physical impacts as people might take things out on themselves.

There are going to be positives and negatives when it comes to not having sex, but in general it's an activity which has a positive impact on your health and missing out on those benefits may hit you harder than you were expecting.

Lack of use of your genitals can lead to the tissue atrophying, while studies indicate that ejaculating regularly can help men stave off prostate cancer.
