A woman has revealed the concerning health issue which caused her boobs to grow by three cup sizes in just weeks.
Considering that we live in a world were breast implants remain one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery, the idea of your bust suddenly exploding in size would likely be a welcome one for numerous women.
But for Lauren Ayres, this would be the first warning sign that something was not right in her body.
Back in January the 28-year-old went for a bra fitting, only to be baffled by the fact that her breasts were 'literally falling out' of the bras she'd purchased just a couple of weeks later.
"It was so baffling," Lauren recalled. "I'd put on a little bit of weight but not for my cup size to go up by that much."
Lauren was surprised to see her breasts 'literally falling out' of the bras she'd been measured for (Kennedy) In the following days the customer communications specialist would begin to experience frequent headaches, extreme tiredness and a change to her menstrual cycle – all of which she dismissed as being not 'serious enough' to warrant a trip to see her GP.
"I just thought it was stress. If I was getting stressed out they were getting significantly worse. It was behind the eyes so they were more like cluster headaches," she said.
"My [menstrual] cycle was changing. Beforehand I was very regular but then it could be two weeks late with nothing triggering it basically."
It wasn't until a routine blood test in July when Lauren discovered the root cause of her symptoms. After a routine blood test revealed she had heightened levels of prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, she was referred for an MRI scan.
This revealed that she had a 14cm by 12cm cyst growing on her pituitary gland. Located at the base of the brain, the pituitary gland is responsible for producing and releasing hormones, which explains the cause of Lauren's symptoms.
However a blood test would reveal increased levels of prolactin, with an MRI confirming a tumour in her brain (Kennedy) The Hertfordshire resident is now waiting further tests but is hopeful that the growth is benign.
"The most likely thing is that it is benign but there could be a chance it's cancerous," she said.
"They've said so far it is benign so hopefully it stays that way."
In the meantime she is raising awareness about her symptoms and urging anyone with concerns to get checked out, by sharing her story on TikTok.
"If it's your cycle changing or if you're noticing anything slightly different just go to the doctor to get it checked out," she added.
She is now raising awareness about her condition (Kennedy) "I know a lot of us and especially women don't feel like we're taken as seriously within the medical industry.
"Sometimes it feels like a fight to be seen or to be taken as seriously as we should but if it's something that has always been regular it's definitely worth getting your blood checked and ask for prolactin levels [to be checked]."
