100-Year-Old Man Smokes, Drinks And Doesn't Worry About What He Eats

100-Year-Old Man Smokes, Drinks And Doesn't Worry About What He Eats

A man who celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this year says he's spent his life smoking, drinking alcohol and not worrying about what he eats.

Zhang Kemin, from Jinjin in China, claims a lifetime of smoking and boozing is the secret to his longevity - though I'm not sure doctors would agree.

Kemin turned 100 on 27 June and now shares a home with a whopping five generations of his family.

Speaking during a TV interview earlier this year, Kemin said he's never worried about what he eats or drinks and claimed he rarely gets annoyed by anything.

He went on to say his biggest passions in life were cigarettes and alcohol, but admits to cutting down on the booze since he turned 90 because he 'didn't want to cause any accidents at work'.

Fair point.

Kemin revealed that he still gets through a packet of cigarettes every day - having picked up the bad habit around 80 years ago.

He claims he started smoking because he needed to socialise for work.

During rainy spells, Kemin likes to sit at home, having a smoke and watching the telly.

Despite his advancing years, Kemin says his only health problem is some hearing difficulties, which mean that his family have to shout for him to hear them.

Opening up about his life, Kemin said he left home aged just 15 and started to work as a shop apprentice, gradually working his way up to bookkeeper.

After marrying wife Rhea he became a farmer but kept up some bookkeeping on the side - something which, incredibly, he still does to this day.

He said the reason he packed in drinking is because he wanted to make sure he didn't make any mistakes while balancing people's books.

Kemin's son, who sat in on the interview, said his dad doesn't require much looking after but the family ensure he has fresh milk and eggs every morning and that they all get together for a family meal at midday.

Well, whatever he's doing, it seems as though it's working.
