It’s most people’s worst nightmare, but an Aussie family has made the highly feared eight-legged creature their domesticated pet.

Summer Stolarcyk took to social media to show the furry yet terrifying pal residing at the Gray’s family home for the past year.

Her name is Charlotte, (huntsman spider) she's a welcomed member of the Gray family in Australia,
Charlotte loves going from room to room eating bugs n stuff.
ps: she's still growing

Of course, this sent users into a frenzy, with many horrified by the sight of the huntsman casually roaming around the property.

One person wrote: “I’d have to move house and buy new stuff. It’s all charlottes now.”

Another commented: “I will never visit Australia. You could not pay me enough money to visit that god forsaken land.”

A third user said: “When people ask me why I left Australia… this. This is why. You don’t know real fear till you wake up at 4am in the morning and one of these dudes is staring at you from your ceiling.”

i,d be right the fuck out of there charlotte could keep the house

And look, that’s fair enough.

Homeowner Jake Gray disclosed to IFLScience that he’s been watching the insect grow for the past year and hopes she gets ‘even bigger’.

He also revealed he named the pet spider ‘Charlotte’ to make her appear more friendly to his children, Jack and Bella, who were initially scared with the creature living in their home.

The father of two said they ‘spotted’ Charlotte a year ago, and seeing her eat an ‘Asian house gecko was a highlight’.

Now, Charlotte is just another member of the family.

However, this isn’t the first time an Aussie has warmed to an arachnid.

Caters

Chris Taylor adopted a spider as his new pet and allowed it to live in his car.

He said: “She just appeared one day about a year ago on the dashboard when I stopped at the lights.

“She was only about half the size she is now though, I’ve watched her grow.

“I did get her out of the car a few months ago but the next day she was back under the sun visor, so she likes it in my car for some reason.”

He added: “When I have passengers in my car they are often startled or scream. Steve is great at keeping me more alert when I drive."
