Manager Forces Staff To Work An Extra 10 Minutes For Every Minute They Are Late

An office manager is being absolutely rinsed online after enforcing a strict tardiness policy at their workplace.

A worker revealed the ‘new office rule’ by posting a photo of a letter written by their boss to Reddit.

The employee uploaded the letter alongside a caption that read: "Shout out the worst place I ever worked (minimum wage, of course)."

While addressing staff, the note read: “For every minute you are late for work, you will be required to work for 10 minutes after 6 pm.

“For example, if you arrive at 10.02, you will have to stay an extra 20 minutes until 6. 20pm. Thanks.”

We assume a quick coffee break is most definitely out of the question.

The Reddit post prompted thousands of angry reactions from users who were astounded over the stern ruling.

One fired-up person wrote: “Boy I hope they like paying overtime. Or paying people to literally just stand around for an extra 20 minutes because they know this rule is bulls**t. How the f**k can people think this is a good idea?”

Another commented: “This is how you lose a lot of money. An hour late would be 10 hours of overtime. Imagine that on a holiday. I would forget to set my alarm and blow their labour budget for year.”

A third person said: “Depressing how many people are not informed on labour laws. No this is nowhere near being illegal. Your employer can without warning require you to work 24 hours straight.”

While another person suggested that the staff member should report their boss, writing: “I’d go a step further and turn them into the state employment department, but I’m petty like that."

We’d pay good money to be a fly on the wall during that meeting.

Following the post, another letter shared on Reddit showed what can happen when staff don't take kindly to new rules.

Employees at a gaming retail store in Nebraska abruptly quit due to what they called bad working conditions created by one manager.

The letter stuck to the display window at the front of the store alerting customers read: “We regret to inform you that we all quit.

“Our district manager has no respect for us as employees or as human beings.

“We have been told by our district manager that we were supposed to have had this store achieving sales quotas and running perfectly months ago. Which was months before a lot of us even got hired. Unfortunately, despite the staff’s best efforts, we are not God.”

The note concluded by urging customers to take their money elsewhere: “Spend your money at an establishment that respects its employees.”
