Lewis Capaldi asks BBC news presenter if she asked for a rim in 'break down of communication'

The singer apparently misunderstood the presenter, who said she would be 'having a word' with him

Lewis Capaldi said a 'classic breakdown in communication' resulted in him bringing up rimming on BBC Breakfast. Watch here:

The singer-songwriter took the opportunity to praise Charlie Stayt's 'great hair', with Charlie returning the compliment and the pair sharing a high five.

"Would you like a room?" co-presenter Naga Munchetty asked, attempting to worm her way into the banterous exchange.

However, her southern pronunciation of 'room' confused Scot Capaldi, who in the blink of an eye dramatically shifted the tone.

"I thought you said a rim," he replied. "I was like, 'jeez'."

With this, Naga's jaw dropped, and like any pro presenter, she decided to hastily move things along.

"The time now, we're coming up to nine o'clock," she said.

"Lewis Capaldi's new single 'Forget Me' is out now... We're going to have a little word with Lewis. The headlines are coming up."

Naga was caught off guard.

Capaldi subsequently shared the clip on Twitter, describing it as 'a classic breakdown of communication'.

The tweet has received more than 30,000 likes, with many creased by the 25-year-old's rim bomb.

One person commented: "Had me on the floor with laughter this morning, don't think they knew where to look after the 'thought you said rim' comment."

Another said: "You can take the lad out of West Lothian but…"

A third added: "I've just had to explain what rimming is to my Mum on her 76th birthday cos I was laughing too hard at this she wanted to see the clip... It's not the gift I wanted to give her!"

If, like this 76-year-old, you don't know what rimming is, I'd advise heading over the Urban Dictionary.

Of course, Capaldi has form for this kind of craic.

Just last week, he apologised to Lorraine Kelly after offering her 'seven inches of me' on her show.

The singer caused a bit of a stir on Lorraine last Tuesday (13 September) when he handed the host a gift – a seven-inch vinyl.

He said: "There you go, my seven inch... record. Sorry.

"Yeah that's actually a Bastille record that's inside it so please don't open it, that's a mistake on our part."

Luckily the gift was much appreciated, with Lorraine saying 'I love vinyl' as she started going red in the face at the innuendo.

So who knows, perhaps Capaldi will sack in the music one day and dedicate himself to his comedy.
