A man who was cut in half by a forklift during a construction job has revealed a picture moments after the freak accident happened.

In September 2019, when Loren Schauers was just 18, he was working as a labourer, which involved driving a forklift. However, the vehicle tragically veered off course, sending Schauers plummeting 50 feet to the ground.

As the four-ton vehicle fell on top of him and pinned him to the ground, Schauers suffered life-changing injuries but miraculously survived the whole ordeal.

Previously revealing he was conscious for the entirety of the terrifying accident, Schauers made the brave decision to undergo hemicorporectomy surgery - where everything below his waist was amputated - to save his life after his pelvis was completely crushed.

Schauers has since shared an image of the moment the forklift had him pinned to the ground, showing the truck on its side off the side of a steep hill, with Schauers not visible under it.

On Instagram, he said: "If you look closely in the second photo, you can see me still pinned under the forklift. Last photo is exactly what type it was I’m sure of."

What's worse is that after the accident happened, he was awake through it.

Speaking about the accident, he previously said: "I was conscious throughout everything, so I actually watched as the forklift fell on top of me and crushed my body.

"Every medical professional I come across is pretty amazed by everything, especially with the story that comes along with my injuries.

"It wasn't a hard choice to have half of my body amputated - it was basically a choice of living or dying. With Sabia assuring to stay by my side no matter what and all my immediate family being around me, it really wasn’t a hard choice for me!”

Since then, he has amassed a large following, sharing his story, with his profile reading: "Hemicorpectomy, not by choice, but that's okay, I'm happy to be alive."

At the time, his girlfriend-now-wife Sabia Reiche was told by doctors that Schauers would not survive and said goodbye to him a staggering six times.

The young man now documents his life with vlogs on a YouTube channel he shares with his wife. In March, the couple gave their followers an update, as Sabia gave an insight into their day-to-day life.

In the video, Loren can be seen being lifted out of bed by his wife and carried to the living room, where he repositions himself on the sofa.

They also detailed the health issues he'd be facing at the time, like kidney stones and 'back-to-back kidney infections', and they were waiting on a surgery update.

In an update posted in April, they revealed that Loren had been expecting to undergo surgery, but this was postponed after he was 'hit with a bout of cadiff flare up infection', which he was on antibiotics for, before finally undergoing the surgery in May.
