McDonald's fans have been left 'devastated' after the new Chicken Big Mac was taken off menus.

The chain recently launched the limited edition burger, and it's seemingly proven more popular than anticipated.

Maccies said the burger has sold out 'almost everywhere' - to the dismay of many Mac-munchers - but promised it would return once stocks had been replenished.

In a tweet, McDonald's said: "Well, that escalated quickly. Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and it’s sold out almost everywhere.

"Thank you for lovin' it even more than we thought you would, it'll be back soon."

The news came as a disappointment to people who have fallen for the burger, as well as those who haven't had chance to try it yet.

One person commented: "Back soon? Are you serious, just make it permanent!!!! It was the best thing I've ever eaten at McDonald's!"

Another added: "Nooooo I haven't had a chance yet! I am devastated."

If you're one of the people who hasn't tried it, you can probably figure out what it's like; imagine a normal Big Mac, but the beef is chicken.

If that's not colourful enough for you, here's how Maccies described it: "It's finally here! Try our two deliciously crispy coated chicken patties made with 100 percent chicken breast meat, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles and tasty Big Mac sauce!"

The burger has sold out.
McDonald's

McDonald's said the burger had been its most popular launch ever in the UK and Ireland.

A spokesperson said: "We have been delighted by our customers' reaction to the limited-edition Chicken Big Mac.

"The demand has been incredible and we simply cannot keep up.

"As such we've made the decision to pause the promotion, let our restaurant teams and suppliers restock and get ready for its return in a few weeks.

"We'll keep customers informed about its return through the usual channels. Thank you to everyone who has made this our most popular launch ever.

"We can't wait to bring it back for even more customers to enjoy."

Keep your eyes peeled then folks for the return of the Mac.
