Shortage Of Walkers Crisps Leaves Supermarket Shelves Bare

Shortage Of Walkers Crisps Leaves Supermarket Shelves Bare

Customers are concerned with the shortage and have compared it to the UK fuel shortage of last month

Snack lovers reckon the current shortage of Walkers crisps is just as bad as the fuel crisis two months back.

Recently supermarket aisles in the UK have been left bare, with Walkers favourites missing from shelves, the Sun reports.

Supermarkets began running low on Walkers last month, with the Sun saying supermarkets had been asked to put promotions on hold so as not to exacerbate the issue.

Nevertheless, it seems like the shortage has hit stores hard and crisp fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

One tweeted: "Please do not tell me there is going to be a crisp shortage, this would affect me far more than petrol!"

Another wrote: "Never mind petrol... Never mind Christmas turkeys...

"Never mind pigs in blankets...Tesco has a crisp shortage!"

A third said: "I certainly don't want popcorn with a sandwich, is this a national crisp shortage then?"

Another concluded: "There's an actual Crisp Shortage!

"Limited to four packs per customer, the question I have to ask myself is... who on earth buys more than four packs at a time anyway, who are these people."

However, it seems that the IT team, who usually get blamed for everything, are partly to blame for the shortage.

A Walkers spokesperson previously said: "We are experiencing disruption to the supply of some of our Walkers snacks products, as a result of a recent IT system upgrade.

"We're very sorry for the inconvenience and would like to reassure everyone that we are working round the clock to increase supply as soon as possible."

It's not all bad news though, as Walkers told the Sun the issue was now resolved, although it might be a while before favourites are back on shelves.

With production running behind schedule, Walkers have promised they are ramping up orders to ensure that the classics, such as salt and vinegar and cheese and onion, will be available shortly.

One of the favourites that were missing off the shelf are Monster Munch. Walkers revealed the Monster Munch shapes are actually claws and not monsters.

The crisp manufacturer launched a tongue-in-cheek campaign following the debate around whether the shapes were claws or monster - flogging limited-edition 'monster' shapes alongside the old 'claw' ones.

They shared a poll on Twitter asking folks for their favourite shape - claw or monster.

A whopping 60,489 votes were cast and a whopping 74 percent voted in favour of the claws.

Will Robinson at Walkers Snacks said: "We felt it was only right to settle the debate once and for all, through launching our 'Monster' and 'Claw' shaped packs and asking the fans to decide - and now they have spoken... so moving forwards it won't be open to debate - they are officially 'claw' shaped forever more!"
